What is it like to live in Budapest? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Yes, I would absolutely recommend it to people who would enjoy living in a beautiful city. Living here can be quite entartaining, there is always something you can do with your friends, going to a ruined pub, or go to a club to have a fantastic night out, but also visiting plently of museums or historical monuments. The city offers a lot of programmes every month.

What is the student lifestyle like in Budapest?

Depends on which university student you are. But usually we have enough time to have fun and study too. We can always gather at some pubs to discuss our school things or study there. At friday or at the weekend we can have great parties, there is always a wide wariety of places we can choose from.

How much does it cost to live in Budapest?

I wouldn't say it's one of the most expensive or cheapest place on Earth... well, I personally think it's okay. You can buy what you want.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Budapest? Is there any advice you can give?

Hm, I don't think so. Especially for students in the downtown you can always find a free flat or room which you can rent.

I would advise though to respect all the neighbourghs because they can be really picky if you make too much of a fuss.

The best solution is to rent a flat with your friends, since you can share the expenses.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

In Budapest you can find every cuisine you just want to try, but I personally think Hungarian dishes are a bit greasy and spicy for eating it randomly. Paprikás csirke, gulyás leves, pörkölt are the best, you won't regret if you try them out.

What places would you recommend visiting in Budapest?

I would recommend the whole city. There is always something you can see. The downtown, the historical castle, the National Garden etc. These are just one of the thousand of things you can explore in this city. Can't miss the amazing view of Buda Castle, the several bridges that cross the River Danube, or our Parliament, or even the Heroes' Square just to tell a few examples. In winter season i highly recommend you to visit some of our hot thermal baths, you won't regret it. It's very healthy and a great experience!

Is it good to eat out in Budapest? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Well, there are good places, of course, where you can eat out, but one thing: NEVER eat in Váci street. Generally they will just try to take your money and the quality of the "food" they serve is not for eating.

I would say try something in downtown, or at any department store. They are better.

Is the nightlife good in Budapest? Where is good to go?

Yes, it's exellent. Many many bars, pubs, clubs you can choose from. Always be careful not to go out alone though.

If you want an authentic ruined pub experience Szimpla Kert, Doboz or Instant is your place.

If you want to have a great party (during the winter season) with lot of dancing go to Hajógyári sziget, it's an island on Danube with a lot of clubs. Studio is one of the bests!

What advice would you give future students heading to Budapest?

I would say be patient with Hungarians. Generally they are nice people but sometimes they can be very rude. Also don't even try to communicate in english, most of the people can't understand it. Always to to talk with university students, they will definitely help you.

If you respect the rules there won't be any problem.

Always buy your tickets for public transport, because the inspectors are very strickt, especially if you are a foreigner.

Never forget that you are never alone, and always be open to make new friends! Wish you the best experiences in Budapest!
