Experience in Budapest, Hungary by Elsa
What is it like to live in Budapest? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
It depends on where you come from to compare: I come from a big city (Athens), so I found it very convenient to live in a city that has 2 million inhabitants. The distances are short and you can get everywhere in the city very fast.
How much does it cost to live in Budapest?
Again, if you come from Switzerland it is very cheap! For a nice apartment, however, be prepared to pay more than 500 euros! You can manage the rest of your living costs with 500 euros per month.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Budapest? Is there any advice you can give?
It is difficult to find good accommodation in Budapest. Most apartments do not have street view, but inner yard view, which means that they are in most cases dark with a view to the neighbour. Also, because of the Airbnb business, almost everyone rents furnished apartments, but not necessarily good.
What places would you recommend visiting in Budapest?
I would definitely recommend to visit the baths (Gellert, Szechenyi, Kyrali, etc. just to name a few). Going there after a cold winter day you will feel relaxed and revitalised.
