Why did you choose to go to Budapest, Hungary?

I choose to go to Budapest because I heard good stories about it and the University (Corvinus) offered interesting courses. Also I'd never been to Central Europe before, and I was interested to discover more of it.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

My study started half september till Christmas.

What is the student lifestyle like in Budapest?

It's amazing, you will never get bored of those clubs, organized parties and other meetings. A lot of students study in Budapest, there is always a good vibe around the city.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Budapest to other students?

Yes, it is a beautiful city with lots of possibilities, ranging from partying to discovering a new culture. Also you can very cheaply and easily travel to other countries.

Corvinus as university was very good (in general), interesting lectures and good teachers. Also the public transport is amazing, provided you live near the center, as trams drive all night and you never have to wait long till the metro/tram/bus arrives.

What is the food like?

Lot of meat and greasiness, but I enjoyed it. Hungary has some typical dishes which are nice to try (langush, chimney bread, goulash).

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Budapest?

No, but I had to search for some time.

How much does it cost to live in Budapest?

Around 450, depending how much you travel, go out etc.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

It is super hard, language courses were available but I didn't take one.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Budapest from your city?

Flying with Wizzair was quite cheap.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Budapest?

  • Hello Baby (kind of a fancy club), on a Wednesday or Thursday definitely.
  • Morissons 2 (unlimited drinking for only 9 euro).
  • Szimpla or Instant is nice.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Budapest?

Drum café (cheap), Café Vian and Menza are a little bit more expensive but also nice.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

Interesting was the Holocaust Museum, beautiful places in the city: Parliament, Heroes square, Citadella at night is beautiful. Just walking around the city is also nice, as the houses are always beautifully decorated.

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Budapest in the future?

Take your time to find a nice place and do not only look at the district number to reject a room (district 8 can be also really nice!).
