Erasmus Experience in Budapest, Hungary by Natalia
Why did you choose to go to Budapest, Hungary?
I choose Budapest because it's a capital city in which I haven't been yet. Moreover I heard a lot of adventures about Budapest from my friends and they were right.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
The scholarship was five month long and I got 300 euros per month.
What is the student lifestyle like in Budapest?
I have to attend to every class during the week but, of course, only few hours per day. The rest of the time you can spend it on your favourites activities such as sightseeing, visiting some museums, meeting with your Erasmus family.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Budapest to other students?
I highly recommmend the city and my university to all of the students. People are helpful and pleasant (especially at the university, they try to solve all problems with which we come up).
What is the food like?
Food is tasty and varied but I recommend to find your favourite place for dinner. My favourite place for traditional Hungarian "paprikas s haluskami" is Frici Papa restaurant at Kiraly utca.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Budapest?
I found it on the website for Erasmus students but I spend one month to find it. I'm satisfied with my room.
How much does it cost to live in Budapest?
270 euro for rental fee + 100 euro for food and other attractions.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
Hungarian language is the most difficult language I've ever heard but language courses at university are available.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Budapest from your city?
The easiest way is to travel by bus- Lux Express Budapest- Kraków route.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Budapest?
Many places but the most famous is Szimpla Kert where you can meet and talk with friends. For the parties places as Morrison's, Opera2, Hello Baby, Ankert.
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Budapest?
Frici Papa.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
In my opinion is worth to visit Parliament building, Opera, Muzeum of Applied Arts and, of course, thermal baths.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Budapest in the future?
Choose Budapest for Erasmus and don't keep calm!
