Erasmus Experience in Budapest, Hungary by Léonore
Why did you choose to go to Budapest, Hungary?
Because of the cheap life and I also wanted to discover the eastern Europe.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
It was 6 months and I received Approximatly 200e for each month.
What is the student lifestyle like in Budapest?
Very nice for the Erasmus students at least.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Budapest to other students?
Yes.
What is the food like?
Good but very fat or with a lot of meat.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Budapest?
It was okay but more expensive than expected.
How much does it cost to live in Budapest?
300e for the flat and around 200e for the living.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
Yes but I had another class at the same time so I didn't learn Hungarian (only the basics).
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Budapest from your city?
Fly (I'm from France).
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Budapest?
The Jewish disctrict.
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Budapest?
Kazimir Bistrot and also some nice cafe/fast food.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
I just visited the museum of Buda Castle. But it is nice to walk around the Danube and look at the Parlement, Buda Castle, Fishermen bastion, Citadella, Liberty place, etc.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Budapest in the future?
Don't go always to Erasmus bar/club and try to meet some Hungarian students because it's sad to live in a country and never try to know the locals.
