Why did you choose to go to Budapest, Hungary?

I wanted to be thrown into cold water. Trying to live in a country where the language is very complicated is an ordeal that I gave myself to grow on this experience. Furthermore, as I come from Germany, it can be seen to be cheaper to live here if you buy in the right shops.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

My scholarship is 6 months with the Erasmus scholarship and in total, I get 1. 550, 00€. However, only 1. 050, 00€ were given before the mobility, the rest will be paid after the semester abroad is finished.

What is the student lifestyle like in Budapest?

It is pretty chill, as there are many shops which give student discounts (like coffee shops). And there are many possibilities to eat very cheaply for lunch.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Budapest to other students?

Yes, I would.

What is the food like?

Very tasty, and they like it spicy here. And there are many alternative options as well. Like vegan, paleo, glutenfree, and so on.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Budapest?

Nope, I used Facebook Marketplace to search for my place. However, here you need to look out for scams!

How much does it cost to live in Budapest?

Well, with living expenses and my flat I would say about 550€ per month (my flat alone is 420€).

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

Well, at the AUB there are Hungarian Courses, even crash courses. But many people in Budapest speak fluently English. So no worries.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Budapest from your city?

From Karlsruhe (Germany) to Budapest I would recommend via flying. It takes only 1 hour then.

To the szimpla and Morrins.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Budapest?

Tao at the Kalvin ter is really good and cheap.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

The parliament and the Mathias Church are really great.
