Why did you choose to go to Budapest, Hungary?

I chose Budapest because I was told that it's a student friendly city by other students from my university who did their Erasmus here. I was also told it's cheaper city so it definitely got my attention.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

My Erasmus duration is from February to June. And we receive 300 euro per month. The 80% of the total scholarship is paid before the mobility.

What is the student lifestyle like in Budapest?

Student life in Budapest is mostly interesting and fun. There are always a lot of events organized by the Erasmus community and also other events in the city: parties, tours, concerts, seasonal events... The city is also full of places to hang out.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Budapest to other students?

I would definitely recommended. There is a lot to do in the city and a chance to meet many other fellow students. It's also suitable to travel to other destinations during breaks and holidays.

What is the food like?

Hungarian food is good and easy to get used to. There are plenty of Hungarian restaurants in the city, but the streets are full of cheap pizzas and kebabs so that's another option. I don't think there is a student who isn't a regular costumer of these places.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Budapest?

There are some popular Facebook pages for flat renting issues. They are really helpful and most students use them. Finding 2 or 3 other friends first would be helpful.

If this doesn't work you can come here and look for look for flats personally while staying at a hostel. Hostels are less than 7 euro for a night.

How much does it cost to live in Budapest?

Well, it depends on how outgoing you are of course. But including basic things and other expenses I dare to say average 400 euros in a month.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

Hungarian isn't an easy language to learn. You can grab some basic communication words though, but English is spoken almost everywhere here so it wont be a problem. You can ask for directions or places anybody in the streets.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Budapest from your city?

I flew directly from Istanbul and that's the easiest way for me.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Budapest?

The Ruin bars would be a good spot for a night out at first, but as almost every tourist comes there they are very crowded. So there are other plenty bars to go out, all depending on the type of music and ur vibe.

Walk next to the river, biking, running... , are also another options if u don't want to go to bars. The city is beautiful at night.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Budapest?

There are all types of food and restaurants, just ask uncle Google to show you where it is.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

Statues, museums, parks, castles, churches...

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Budapest in the future?

I am sure you won't regret for choosing Budapest.
