Why did you choose to go to Budapest, Hungary?
I had already visited Western Europe a few times and wanted a study abroad location that was in eastern europe and little out of the ordinary.
What is the student lifestyle like in Budapest?
You go out about 5 days a week. So many students from all over the world in the program, it was amazing!
Would you recommend the city and the University of Budapest to other students?
100% yes!!
What is the food like?
Very good. Pampas Argentinian Steak House across from Corvinus University is the best steak I have ever had. Ever.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Budapest?
Nope!
How much does it cost to live in Budapest?
About $300 Euro a month for my apartment. Everything else is dirt cheap
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
I took a Hungarian class at my University and I'm so happy I did. The language is torture.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Budapest from your city?
Tram/Metro. You can get a student monthly pass thats about $15 and you can use the metro, tram, bus whenever you want with that pass
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Budapest?
Margit!!
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Budapest?
Like I said, Pampas is incredible. Ring Cafe and Burger Bar on Andrassy that is soo good, the burgers were perfect. Ruben is wonderful! Cactus Juice (decor and food dont match but I couldn't stop going back because the food was so good). MOST behind the opera house is authentic hungarian (and delicious!). I honestly did not have one bad meal the whole 5 months I was there. This list could go on forever.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
Everything and anything.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Budapest in the future?
If you are thinking twice about it, don't. You HAVE to go. I'm obsessed with Budapest now. Best experience of my entire life, I wouldn't change a thing.
