Why did you choose to go to Budapest, Hungary?
I wanted to go a city different to those I already know, I had never been to Budapest before, but large cities really catch my attention, and I finally I chose it.
How long is the scholarship? How much money did you receive to help you with living costs?
My grant lasts for 10 months, and people from Andalusia, like myself, receive around 2, 000 euros.
What is the student lifestyle like in Budapest?
There is a diverse range of students in Budapest from all over the world, as there are lots of universities. There are lots of young people and they organise lots of international events to get to know more students.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Budapest to other students?
I studied in the Humanities faculty of the Eötvös Loránd University and it is really good, at the start everything was chaotic and it was difficult to get your bearings, but they know how to help Erasmus students. I would really recommend the city, as much for the monuments and the streets, as for the life there in general.
What is the food like there?
There is a huge variety of traditional Hungarian dishes which are worth trying, especially the warm soups and the meat.
Was it difficult to find your accommodation in Budapest?
It wasn't too hard, and they also have lots of Facebook pages which offer flats for Erasmus students, although be wary.
How much does it cost to live in Budapest?
Budapest is cheaper than Spain, it depends on the invidiual but it more or less costs 500 euros per month.
Is the language easy to get to grips with?
Are there language courses available at the university?
Hungarian is practically impossible and although the university offers courses, I didn't go.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Budapest from your city?
To go to Malaga or Madrid by train and then get a direct flight to Budapest.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Budapest?
Instant, Szimpla, Corvin, Morrison'2...
Is it good to eat out in Budapest?
What are some of your favourite places to go?
Fricci Papa, Drum Cafe!
And what about cultural visits?
The parliament is amazing to see at night and the Chain bridge illuminated is worth seeing too. There are so many monuments to visit, the Fisherman's Bastion, Buda Castle, Hereos' Square...
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Budapest in the future?
This city is incredible and you shouldn't waste a single moment of your time here, there is always something new to discover and the city offers a million and one possibilities.
