Ruszworm Cafe : One of Europe's oldest pastry shops
Ruszwurm cafe
Address: Budapest, Szentháromság u. 7, 1014
Imagine this. A perfectly sunny Sunday, you’re able to wear just one layer after i don’t know 6 months of having to wear at least 3 layers. Now imagine walking in this sunny, slightly windy day on the hills of the buda side. It paints quite a picture, it has been so far one of my best days here in Budapest, I genuinely enjoyed it. It started with me wanting to take my mom sightseeing, ever since I moved here I haven’t had many chances to explore the city not just because of my schedule but also because of the weather; so on this sunny Sunday I took my mom to all the beautiful destinations starting from the fisherman’s bastion, Matthias Church and then the buda castle.

We were walking for 3-4 hours and explored every corner and when we were famished and dying of thirst we decided to go to one of Hungary’s most famous cafes known as Ruszwurm. Apparently this cafe has been here for a really long time, more than 150 years and it’s quite well known. They actually opened back in 1827!!! that's freaking insane like how's that possible even.
Ruszwurm is in fact of one Europe's oldest pastry shops!!

It’s really nearby the fisherman’s bastion, about a 3-4 minute walk which you can use google maps to get there. It’s a cute little place with not too many tables, there are maybe 6-7 tables outside and a few more inside; but it was too hot to sit there. It was super crowded and you had to wait to get a table but we were lucky and got one in 10 minutes.
The menu is interesting but the more interesting part is the cake section, as a huge fan of pastries you know that I would kill for cakes. I mean I’m so obsessed with sweets that I worry about my health sometimes. I went inside to check out the cakes and the variety was amusing. they had caramel, chocolate, raspberry , strawberry etc. you name it, I decided to go for a raspberry cake, the pieces were generally small and the prices were around 600 to 800 forints.
My mom ordered an ice cream which came with liquor, tiramisu and 3 scoops of ice cream. We sat there enjoying that hot afternoon sun, feeling satisfied, happy and warm at heart. It was truly one of those summer days that gets stuck to your head.

The total was around 3000 for us, because the ice cream was like 2000 forints and they charge for services. Overall the cake even though small, it tasted good and it was refreshing. And the ice cream was absolutely delicious, truly a summer experience. I think you should definitely swing by there if you are sightseeing around there.
I do think it's better to make a reservation before hand as it is extremely crowded nowadays but if you consider yourself lucky then you may try to get a table
Hope you enjoy this article and check out this place, I'm sure you won't regret it.
Cheers
