Hermits
So, we lost our couchsurfing safety net and landed on a payed comfortable airbnb one. Of course, we had to walk A LOT with our luggage on our backs, and as soon as we arrived at our new place, we fell asleep until it was that perfect time of the night where nothing is open and it's freezing outside.
We were living next to Luzanky park (sorry, my keyboard doens't have the propoer czech accent), which we called the dog park, because there were so many dogs there all the time. Starving and with no other options, we went on Yelp and found a restaurant quite close that was still open but about to close. We ran there. It was cold, it was late and all the restaurant called Verbena (now Ponava) had was soup, camembert and pickled sausage. We ate all of those and loved them to death. There's a saying in portuguese: "Quando a fome é negra...", meaning, when you're starving, you'll eat whatever and love it. Which was our case. If I ever open a restaurant, I might call it this... But that's another adventure.
After the delicious and much deserved meal (we never went back there), we returned to the apartment and finally truly appreciated it. It was small, but very cool. All white, with many wooden structures and some preserved branches with cool angles that gave the impression that we were living in the middle of the dried trees of the Death Valley in California. The name might sound unappealing, but it's quite cool. The kitchen was really small but very cute, and we saw that the people responsible for having this house were quite the foodies, as they had all sorts of ingredients at hand! From several types of nuts, seeds and powders to an impressive variety of cooking condiments and spices. No human eyes or lizards' tails, so they weren't witches, which was slightly disappointing.
The stay here was great and uneventful. Oh wait! No, there was something else!!
We had been talking to a guy who was friends with a friend of mine and she told me that he was looking for someone to move into the apartment. Confused? I had contacted him upon arrival and we arranged to meet at his house. Since we thought we were going to stay there, guess what? We grabbed allllllll our things from the airbnb room and took off to leave them there and have more space for one night in the airbnb. When we arrived at the new possible house, we were super thrilled: it was in the center CENTER of Brno, in the freedom square!!!! We climbed 5 floors with our bags, desperately eager to find our place to stay! We were so excited! The people there seemed nice, they were all students from different countries... It was exactly what we were looking for!!! We arrived at their door. Opened the door. And found...bikes and shoes. And the bathroom, on the right! We kept walking...and we came to a halt. My boyfriend, to whom I shall refer to as Lemur, so my Lemur stopped me and said: Open up your senses!" And I was like: Whaaaaaa?" And he said: Dude, can't you smell it??" And then I realized what he meant: that house was a gas chamber and we left immediately. I hope they're safe and healthy, but we swear to God, to live in a house like that is like chopping off one finger per day...you'll eventually die from blood loss or trauma.
And so, we left the house, WITH OUR BAGS (I can't stress enough how heavy they were) and the search for a room went on. Until...
