VIRO - the seminar solution

What is your understanding when you see the word 'VIRO'?

Each of you may have different ways of interpreting it. Why? Because we have different perspectives, we have different views and capabilties of seeing and doing things.

Today, I am inviting you to discover VIRO with me.

Befor explaining about VIRO, let's join a game with me. The purpose of the game is to TELL YOUR FUNNIEST VIRO STORY.

How does it work?

1. I will divide our room into different groups, each group will have at least 5 people. I will use the traditional way - numbering people and people with the same number 1 will form group 1; etc

2. Each group will have 3 mins disccusion and 1 minute presentation; there are no extra seconds, after 1min, you have to stop; sorry if we miss the most important part

You want to discuss together to create the funniest story about VIRO. You also want to discuss how do you present the story in front of us.

3. The rule when telling your story is everyone needs to participate in telling the story, so for example, I am in a team of 3 people and my story have 3 sentences, one person say one sentence

4. How to measure the FUNNIEST, I will count the time people laugh; if nobody laughs, we can vote at the end

So everyone gets the rule of the game, so let's start.

Ok, let's analyse the reason why did they win?

I have here a list of different items that relate to the reason that they win; so please help me to continue list down these reasons.

Now, we will use the framework VIRO to actually learn about how did they win.

VIRO stands for

VIRO (Value, Imitability, Rarity,  and Organisation) framework is widely used tool to analyse which internal resources and capabilities can be used as sources of sustainable competitive advantages (Barney, 1995). According to VIRO, a firm's resource or capability must be valuable, , rare and inimitable, to become a source of sustained competitive advantage (Barney, 1995).

Resources: Time, people

Even though sometimes the situations are different, remember that you have your resources, just optimise them to make it immitable, valuable and rare. You can create your VIRO funniest stories
