What is it like to live in Bradenton? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

I wouldn’t recommend Bradenton to a student looking for a great atmosphere and younger culture. This is a town. I’d recommend looking more north to St Pete or south to Sarasota for that. This is my hometown so I am biased, but overall everyone is conservative compared to larger places like St Pete, which can be irksom. It is much like many places in the USA, not much sticks out to me.

What is the student lifestyle like in Bradenton?

There is the South College of Florida SCF nearby, but most students live at home. I see it as more of an extension of high school for the majority of the students.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Basic American food, some good seafood places closer to the coast. Grouper is a great local fish (not too fishy taste) you can get at most local restaurants.

What places would you recommend visiting in Bradenton?

Robinson’s Preserve has excellent bike and walking trails, as well as kayak trails through the mangrove trees, otherwise Bradenton itself doesn’t have much to offer except a single street in the “downtown“ area with nice cafes and bars. Anna Maria Island is right off Bradenton and it is great for beachy, touristy fun. Sarasota is closer than St Pete but both cities have a lot to offer for both food and entertainment.

Is it good to eat out in Bradenton? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

The Star Fish company is located on the water in the Cortez village and it is great, fresh locally caught seafood.

Is the nightlife good in Bradenton? Where is good to go?

It’s just basic bars and 24 hour diners. I’ve heard the local Brewery is a great place to hang out with good beer and a nice (slightly hipster?) atmosphere.

What advice would you give future students heading to Bradenton?

I wouldn’t.
