María's Erasmus Experience in Bordeaux

Why did you choose to go to Bordeaux, France?

I choose Bordeaux for the language, which I speak.

What is the student lifestyle like in Bordeaux?

There are lots of students in Bordeaux, I'd say that it is a city made for students (like Salamanca in Spain).

Would you recommend the city and the University of Bordeaux to other students?

My university (Victor Segaren Bordeaux II) and especially my faculty really surprised me in a good way. The resources and the teachers are extraordinary for it being a public university.

How is the food in the country?

The food is delicious, especially the pastries! Don't miss out on fondue, creperies and Raclette.

What is the cheapest way to get to Bordeaux from your city?

From my city (Vitoria-Gasteiz) I went by car to Hendaia (just before the border) and from there I took the TGV to Bordeaux which costs 50 euros for a return (and that's for taking it last minute).

Where do you recommend to go on a night out in Bordeaux?

It depends on what you're looking for. For clubbing, I think that the Iboat area, Dame de Shanghai and so on is better than the La Plage area where there is a lot of crime. For going to bars or the city centre I recommend Le chat qui peche, Heretic or La suite. However, it's common in Bordeaux to have house parties where lots of students get together.

And eating in Bordeaux? Can you share your favourite places?

My favourite places are : Santosha (A Balinese restaurant where everything is delicious and the inside is great), Reno creperie (the 'gallettes' are great and the waiters are friendly), and for something more elegant, Entrecôte (famous throughout France for how it makes entrecôte and its secret sauce).
