What is it like to live in Bordeaux? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
It is a very student city, but also quite expensive, especially for accommodation. The buildings of many universities are old, but the downtown is really nice. There are also super restaurants, cheap and expensive.
What is the student lifestyle like in Bordeaux?
The main part of bars are made for students, and Thursday night is really nice. But it is quite expansive compared to other cities. University buildings are often old and administration is not very efficient, but there is a great student community.
How much does it cost to live in Bordeaux?
It's expensive, especially for accommodation, but there are many help for students as University restaurant.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Bordeaux? Is there any advice you can give?
Yes it is, especially in downtown. You have to look very early for an apartment, and search everywhere you can.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
French food is really nice, but often expensive. You can also find nice foreign restaurants. My favourite kind of food is French/ Spanish, as bar tapas.
What places would you recommend visiting in Bordeaux?
To party, Place de la Victoire and around.
To walk, the quays and the places around (Quinconces, Saint Pierre, Saint Michel... )
Is it good to eat out in Bordeaux? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
Yes, it is very nice but often expensive. The nicest spots are little restaurants on the old town (Saint Pierre, Saint Michel... )
Is the nightlife good in Bordeaux? Where is good to go?
It is but from Thursday to Saturday night, other days are quite dead. For the bars, there are many pubs around La Victoire and Saint Pierre. For discos, the majority are located around the train station and the quays. They are different, but the nicest are the Respublica, the Iboat and La Plage.
What advice would you give future students heading to Bordeaux?
Do not expect to much of universities. Have fun on week ends and take time to walk on the city by nice weather, and start to search early your accommodation. Ask help to other students that will be glad to help you of you have any trouble!
