Experience in Bordeaux, France by Eva
What is it like to live in Bordeaux? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
Bordeaux is a really nice city that every person should like. The architecture is wonderful and there are a lot of things to do. Also, the landscapes are amazing around the city. We can find vineyards in St Emilion or the ocean and the famous Dune du Pyla.
What is the student lifestyle like in Bordeaux?
Students like to live in Bordeaux because the city is small, there is a good transport (tram or bikes especially). In the center, there are a lot of bars, and nightclubs on the quays.
How much does it cost to live in Bordeaux?
I live with my parents, but my friends who live in the center pay about €450 for a furnished studio middle-size without costs. Near the faculties (20 minutes of the center), it should be less.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Bordeaux? Is there any advice you can give?
I don't know...
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
The food is delicious, like all food in France! I recommend the famous "entrecôte" because meat and fries are just awesome, but surely the "Bistrot du Régent" has a better ratio quality/price. Of course the specialities are the "canelés" that you must try.
What places would you recommend visiting in Bordeaux?
In the city, I recommend to visit the Pey Berland place and why not climb up the tower; the Miroir d'eau on the quays and Place de la Bourse. The Museum of Aquitaine, the Public Garden, Gambetta Place... SO much places you should see by yourself.
Is it good to eat out in Bordeaux? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
As I told it before, it is good to go to restaurants but could be expensive and disappointing.
Is the nightlife good in Bordeaux? Where is good to go?
The nightlife is great but don't expect yourself to partying every night. The bars close at 2 am and the nightclubs are practically all on the quays. The most famous place is La Plage because it's a huge nightclub but there are also different style like the Republica for electronic music, La Pachanga for latino music... The Iboat on the hangar is also a good place.
What advice would you give future students heading to Bordeaux?
I suggest you to take a room in the center, because a lot of students are complaining cause there are no transport after 2 am... Also, don't hesitate to talk to native people, even if they seem close, they could be really nice and show you the Bordeaux lifestyle! And don't forget to visit our beautiful region!
