Erasmus experience in Bordeaux, France by Hannah

Why did you choose to go to Bordeaux, France?

I went three years ago just to visit and I loved the city, so I wanted to be there for my Erasmus year to get to know the city even better.

How long are you staying? How much help have you received?

I am going to be in Bordeaux until May. I received very little help from the University of Bordeaux in the first semester.

How is student life in Bordeaux?

My university experience is terrible but the city is great. However, it is not good to be a girl alone at night, there are a lot of dodgy men who are not afraid to talk to (and touch... ) girls.

Would you recommend the city and university of Bordeaux to other students?

Yes, I would recommend the city to other students, but not University Bordeaux Montaigne.

How is the food in France?

The food is good. The fruit and vegetables are almost always local and the price is not expensive. However, the meat is a lot more expensive so normally I eat vegetarian food.

Did you have difficulty finding a place to stay in Bordeaux?

Yes. I had a lot of difficulty for the first semester, but I moved in December and now I live in the centre of town.

What is the living cost in Bordeaux?

Really, it is not very expensive. Transport via trams, bikes and buses is not expensive. The food is not expensive except meat and alcohol in pubs and bars.

How is learning French going? Have you been to language lessons organised by the university?

No, not yet, but I am going to take them next semester.

And what cultural things have you done?

Hôtel de Ville and the Châteaux de Vins close to the city. I love the river bank as well.

Do you have some advice for future students in Bordeaux?

You should live in the centre to fully experience French city life.
