Anarchy is Back!

So, not strictly a place, but for any rock or metal fan in Birmingham a night at Anarchy is a must! Anarchy used to be a fortnightly event at Subway City, however once that changed ownership Anarchy seemed to be lost, but recently The Rooftop has offered Anarchy a new home, hooray! So when I was at home over Christmas this was top of the list of priorities for a night out, accompanied by my faithful Anarchy buddies Liv, Liam and Jayson. We first drank at Livs house before moving on to a Wetherspoons in Birmingham City Centre, The Square Peg. We had a few cocktail pitchers and a few pints before we headed off to Anarchy’s new home – The Rooftop. I had never been to any nights at the rooftop, so was intrigued to see this new venue.

The rooftop is located on Ryder Street, so a bit of a walk away from New Street Station, but it is located to lots of bus stops. It is also in close proximity to Scruffy Murphys, one of the most popular rock pubs in Birmingham, so there is somewhere great nearby to pre-drink. The entry was £5, or £3 if you had put your name down for the guest list (which you can easily do through their Facebook page). Then you must head up several flights of stairs, which is easier said than done after a few drinks, the main room is right at the top of the stairs, one flight above a secondary room. The decoration is all bare brick, but the really high ceilings mean that it never gets too hot in there. There is also a rooftop patio which is nice and spacious for smokers to use. There is also a smaller room off the main one, which caters to the more heavy metal tastes of music, which can be accessed through the main room via a bridge, which is very interesting. There are bars in all of the rooms, which are well staffed, it doesn’t take long to purchase a cheap drink.

The atmosphere is great, as ever in anarchy, and I’m sure that once it has settled completely into its new home it will be just as good as it ever has been. I would definitely recommend a visit there.
