Dining at Retro
The introduction
Hello people, I hope you are doing just fine! Now I want to tell you about this day at the seaside. Well, technically it’s about our another trip to Batumi, however, I will tell you how it all started.
Well, to be honest, when we went to Batumi the other day, others wanted to eat some Acharuli Khachapuri, however, then we decided to go to Sarpi from Batumi and have a dinner there, because we usually do that, I mean, it was the 3-rd of September and it was my mother’s birthday and we usually celebrate it in Sarpi with a small dinner and stuff like that in a restaurant, that we encountered some time ago and we liked it a lot, I mean, they have pretty delicious dishes and the environment is really nice and it’s looking down on a sea and the beach and, well, it’s just a great place for hanging out. So that, we went to Sarpi that time and we didn’t eat any Acharuli Khachapuri in Batumi, hence. However, there’s this restaurant called “Retro”, which is known to be one of the best restaurants that prepare very delicious Acharuli Khachapuri, and, well, it’s written on their menu, that Retro is a Sakhachapure, which means that it mainly prepares Khachapuris, you know. Though, of course, they have some other dishes, too, just like the casual restaurants. But mostly people go there to eat Khachapuris, and mostly to eat Acharuli Khachapuri. And they have this Acharuli Lobiani, too, which is cooked beans in Acharuli Khachapuri shape and it’s really good, too, I can say. To be honest, it was the first time that I tasted it that day, and I really liked it, if you want to know the truth.
Anyways, since they didn’t have a chance to taste Retro’s Acharuli Khachapuri,my parents had this idea of going to Batumi again and visiting Retro. Well, it was kind of crazy, going there just for Acharuli Khachapuri, however, I guess, they had some other things in mind, too. And, well, we decided to go ahead and go to Batumi that day after noon or something like that.
At the beach
It was a hot sunny day and when I woke up, I just got dressed and then we all went to the beach, except for my brother, who was still asleep, you know. The water was great and we swam and had a good time in the sea and then it was time for the suntan and stuff like that and then I went to swimming again and everything. There were many people around us and it was pretty surprising, that people didn’t seem to leave, rather they came to Ureki, I guess, because there were some new faces and white people, without suntan and stuff like that, so that they were newly come, to my opinion. Well, it was obvious, that people came to the seaside in those days, too, however, it was already September and, usually, that is the time when people start their jobs and the schools start and things like that. To tell you the truth, not everything starts at the beginning of September, I mean, the schools start in the middle of September, so that there’s plenty of time until that and so that people go to the seaside with their families in the beginning of September , too, if you want to know the truth. So, there were many children around and their parents watching them and they were just playing in the sand and making some small castles and having fun. It was just crazy around, because everyone was running around with those small buckets and cars and all the other toys and then there were some children, who wanted some cooked corn and they were waiting for the corn sellers to come, so that their parents would buy them some cooked corn and they could eat them. You know, that corn is really delicious when you are on a beach and hungry and stuff, even if it’s not that delicious in the reality.
Going to Batumi again
Anyways, it was decided that we would go to Batumi somewhere about 2 p.m. so that I could be at the beach for a little longer, while the others went to the hotel. As it was pretty hot, I went to the hotel sooner, than I expected and, well, I took a shower and got ready for the trip. In the meantime, my brother woke up, too, and he was then informed about our decision and he said that he would come to Batumi, too, moreover, he would drive the car. Well, he doesn’t really want his car to be driven by someone else, I guess, because no matter what and no matter how tired he is, he still doesn’t want others to drive his car, if you want to know the truth. So, we got all ready and got into the car and hit the road to Batumi. There were all those cars on the road and stuff like that. We went through Kobuleti, of course, and we would look around and see those houses and buildings and all those people walking there and the cafes and stuff like that, you know. Then we went to this uphill, where there’s Batumi Botanical Garden. Well, we were there a couple of times and it’s huge, I mean, you can’t really sightsee it in a day, I guess, or at least, that’s what I thought when we went there. There are so many things, that you can’t decide where to go and what to see first.
Getting in Retro
Anyways, at last, we went into Batumi and we went to the Retro at once, because we were all hungry and stuff, you know. There were many people there, as usual and when we got inside, there was this one table vacant and I just rushed there and sat there, so that no one would sit there except for us. There are so many people there and, especially, at that time, that it’s hard to find a vacant table there, if you want to know the truth, so I was really glad, that I found one immediately after getting inside. Well, the waitress was kind of not so great, or what I anticipated, I guess, however, it was still alright. She came to us and asked whether we knew what we would order already, or if we needed a menu. I mean, what kind of a question is that? Of course, I needed a menu, and however, we knew what we wanted to order basically, but maybe we wanted something else, too? That’s just silly asking that to the clients, if you ask me. So that, we told her, that we needed a menu and she brought one. And then she told us to think of the order and that she would take the whole order altogether, I mean, she didn’t want to take an order step by step. You know, sometimes people order some things and then they decide to add some things to the order and then they call the waitress and add those things to their order, so this waitress told us, that she wouldn’t do that and that she would take the order as it was in all.
Ordering some dishes
So, we took a look at the menu and decided to have some other dishes except for the Acharuli Khachapuri, which we came there to taste. Well, my brother told the waitress three medium-sized Acharuli Khachapuris, and I kind of knew that I wouldn’t be able to eat that all, however, I didn’t say anything, because I wanted to eat some Acharuli Khachapuri and, perhaps my mother and brother wanted to eat those two Acharuli Khachapuris for themselves, so that I could have that one and try to eat it all. They also ordered one Acharuli Lobiani, and that was the thing I wanted to taste the most, because the other time when we went to Retro , I really wanted to eat some Acharuli Lobiani, however, no one wanted it and I was not able to eat it alone, so that I didn’t order it that time, and now I was glad , that my brother decided to order it, so that I could taste some pieces of it, too. We also ordered some Pelmeni with meat and mushrooms with Sulguni on Ketsi, which are really delicious, if you ask me. I guess, if you love mushrooms, you should definitely taste that dish, because it’s unimaginably delicious, though it has much oil sometimes, well, at least, it had much oil in Retro. Or perhaps, it had some butter that was melted, I really don’t know. However, when we prepare that dish, we don’t really put some butter in the mushrooms, we just put those Sulguni pieces in them and pour some oil on the pan or whatever it is that we cook them on.
Anyways, it was really boring waiting for our order to come, because we were all hungry, as I’ve mentioned above and we were just waiting for our order to come, and it’s pretty bad when all the other people are eating their food and you’re just sitting there at your table waiting desperately your order to be brought, you know. It was really annoying waiting for our waitress. And I guess, it was something around 40 minutes, that we were waiting for our order. The first thing that they brought was Pelmeni with meat and it had sour-cream with it, too, I mean, it was in another small bowl and you could add it to Pelmeni if you wanted. There were 8 Pelmenis in all, if I remember correctly, and that was my father’s order, so we were still waiting for our Acharuli Khachapuris. I knew, that those Khachapuris were supposed to be pretty large and so that it was not wise to eat those Pelmenis first, though I wanted to taste them, I guess.
It was some time that we waited and then they brought those Acharuli Khachapuris. Well, they were three, because my father doesn’t like eggs and he doesn’t eat them. He just likes omletes or fried mashed eggs, you know. And Acharuli Khachapuri has an egg on it and it’s kind of raw, because they usually add it at the end of its cooking time, and it has some butter, too, in it. so, my mother and father decided that he could have that part of Khachapuri, which didn’t have an egg on it, so that they cut it into some pieces and then my mother could eat the eggy part of it, you know. And I had this huge Khachapuri just for myself! I could do that, too, however, my Acharuli Khachapuri was all in egg and I couldn’t cut it so that it would be a part without an egg, I guess. Well, it was all mine and I would have to eat it all. However, I decided to eat those cheesy stuff at first with small pieces of dough and then see what was left from the whole thing, you know. It was really delicious, if you want to know the truth. And , no matter how large it was, I couldn’t just leave it like that, you know, and I would do my best to eat it until finished, or until that cheesy stuff was gone.
Soon the waitress brought the Acharuli Lobiani and it looked pretty awesome, if you want to know the truth and I just wanted to taste it so bad, that I couldn’t wait until it got less hot. Well, the beans were seasoned and spiced pretty well, it was really delicious, though it needed something, I guess, it needed some butter or oil or something like that, because it was kind of dry for me, I guess. It had these pepper pickles on it, just like they eat beans traditionally. I don’t know, why they eat them like that, though. I don’t really like those pepper pickles, though my sister just loves them and until getting back to Germany, she bought those stuff for herself and ate them all. Well, my mother likes them, too, and they used to eat those things together, you know. So, this time, my sister was not there, but my mother was, so that she ate those pepper pickles, if you want to know the truth. Soon came the mushrooms with Sulguni and they looked just heavenly delicious, and they tasted really delicious, too, however, they were so nourishing, that you couldn’t eat anything else, I guess. I just tasted them, because I had this Acharuli Khachapuri to eat and I still wanted to eat some of the Acharuli Lobiani, too. Well, it would have been wiser, if we ordered two Acharuli Khachapuris and just divided them and eat them, because my brother couldn’t eat his Acharuli Khachapuri either, you know, and, besides, we had Acharuli Lobiani, too and other things and it was just crazy not to leave something there. You know, if you want to go and eat Acharuli Khachapuri, you should not order anything else.Or you have to order it and divide and give some pieces of it to someone else, if you want some other things to eat, too. Otherwise, you’ll just end up with some things leaving on the table or something like that. Which I hate so much. though, sometimes it just happens and you are out of choice, but to leave some things like that. But, of course, I always try that kind of thing not to happen to me, if you want to know the truth.
