Batumi. Day 4. Part 1

The introduction

So, it was a great sunny day, too, that day and we were just very happy because of that, because when it’s sunny on the seaside, you feel like you’re on the beach, and when it’s cloudy, it’s like you don’t really feel the sea. Well, to be honest, cloudy weather is better in Batumi, than the sunny weather, because when you want to walk around and hang out with friends or something, sunny weather is always getting in your way, because you feel hot and it’s easier to hand out when it’s cloudy and kind of cool and stuff like that. Besides, you can get tanned even in cloudy weather, and in fact, I guess, cloudy weather gets you more suntanned than the sunny weather. Well, you should not forget your sun cream, because, trust me, you need it. everyone needs it, if you want to know the truth. You should definitely use it every day when you are exposed to the sunlight, because you really need to be protected from the direct rays of the Sun, otherwise you are at risk of many skin diseases and cancer, too, of course and stuff like that and , besides that, you can get sunburned without sun cream, you know.

Those cats

Well, I got dressed and waited for my sister to get ready, too. She was kind of walking here and there and I had to wait some time for her to get all ready and stuff. However, soon we got out of the room and went to the beach. And there was this cat outside on the roof when I looked out of the window and it was a really brave cat, I can say, because it knew how to get everywhere and it even stole us one of my potato pies! That’s why I hated it. well, actually, I don’t really like cats, because they are very stubborn animals, you know. We have had cats for years now in Kakheti and they have been much of a help, I guess, because as you know, they catch mice and they really did a good job in that catching mice, though they would really bother me and they would come into the house and in the rooms and stuff like that and some of them used to come close to me and put its head on my feet or something like that or just stand really close to my legs and I just hate when animals do that or when they touch me, so I would just kick them and made them go away, however they would still come back! It was horrible for me, if you want to know the truth. My grandfather used to feed them with bread and stuff like that and my brother liked them, too, and he always wanted to feed them with milk or he would have this cup or something outside the house for them to pour some milk or water in it so that those cats would drink it. however, that was many years ago, when he was little. Then some time later he didn’t really care about the cats. Well, he didn’t kick them or hate them as I did, but still… I remember, there was this one time when one of our cats had these two little kittens, one of them was white and the other one was mostly black. They were little so that they seemed pretty cute, if you want to know the truth. So, I kind of liked them. However, there was this one day, when it turned out that one of those kittens was inside one of our cars, I mean, it was sitting on one of the wheels, I guess, or somewhere nearby that, so when my brother started the car, there was this strange sound and that kitten dropped out with blood on the head and shaking and stuff like that and then it died, sadly. It was horrible, if you want to know the truth. So that, there was the other one left, right? Well, soon even this other one was not left to live, too. Are you interested in what happened to it?I will tell you , that the same thing happened to it and it died the same way, too. I don’t know what that was, however that was kind of a fate, I guess. I was really sorry about them, if you want to know the truth.

Anyways, it was pretty sunny outside and it was a good day. We were on the beach and while getting there that lounge guy still asked us if we wanted any lounges to take and we still said “no”. He was asking that to everyone who walked nearby them and it was kind of irritating, I mean, if anyone wanted any lounges they would go and ask them, and, besides, there were no one besides them there, so that if someone wanted a lounge, they had to go to them, you know.

That day my sister even swam  a little in the sea and I took some videos of her swimming and when she saw them she didn’t like her swimming,  if you want to know the truth. The water was pretty good, well, it was kind of cold, but one could swim and it was a good chance before leaving Batumi for Tbilisi to swim in the sea and enjoy the sun and the water and the beach and everything.

And I swam in the sea, too, of course, as I was really looking forward to the sunny days and swimming , because I was at the seaside and how could I not swim in the sea? Otherwise, what was the purpose of going there, besides getting suntanned or something like that. And if I wanted to rest or relax or whatever, I could just do it at home or in Kakheti, you know. This Batumi trip was to be everything in one, I mean, we would have fun and get suntanned and swim in the sea and enjoy and, well, mostly I was looking forward to swimming in the sea, if you want to know the truth. So, I swam for some time and then went out and laid there on the beach to get dry and stuff like that. You know, there is this thing about Batumi beach, that there are different shaped stones and they are large and small and bumpy and so on and so forth and it’s just really hard to get into the water and get out of it without some pain in your feet and, trust me, that’s just horrible. I’m not whining or stuff like that, but it really killed me. I mean, you can’t really get inside the water with your flip flops, because they may be taken away by the water and you have to go inside with your bare feet or you should have something that won’t get off, and I didn’t have anything like that there. Well, actually, I have some flip flops like that at home, but I forgot to take them with me in Batumi, so that it was useless having them at home, of course. That’s my bad. And that’s why I was struggling in going in and out of the water there. Well, I guess, everyone struggles with that and that’s why people love sand beaches, however, they still go to Batumi and Kobuleti and Gonio and places like that. There is this town called Ureki, where there’s black sand and the water is good, if you want to know the truth, and it’s like in the woods or something, because there are many trees and these recent years we’ve been spending our holidays there and the town has been improving itself little by little and nowadays it really is worth visiting it and spending some time there, if you ask me. Some years ago, there was not much to see or do there and the road was bad and the beach was not good and so on and so forth. However, some years ago they renovated some stuff and since then there have been some works done to make everything better there. There’s this town Anaklia, too, in Samegrelo, that has been recently renovated. Well, not that recently, but still… And there’s also sand there on the beach and it’s a really good place to visit and relax and be with friends or whatsoever. There are many different things to see and it’s worth going there, too, if you ask me. There are some events held, too, and youngsters go there with friends and they have lots of fun there and stuff like that.

Eating at Khinkali House again

Anyways, it was a sunny day, so that my sister went home early and I just stayed there on the beach for a little while longer to get all dry and stuff. She said, that she wanted to eat some Kharcho _ beef soup with rice and tomato paste,which is very delicious and I love it so much, however, I was really surprised that my sister wanted to eat it, because she usually doesn’t eat soups or things like that and I would anticipate her eating some eggplants with walnuts or Khinkali or Shwarma or something like that, but that day she just wanted to eat some Kharcho and she said that she would eat the whole portion. I suggested going to Ukrainian restaurant and eating Kharcho there, however, I realized that I had it mistaken in Borsh, which is a soup with cabbage and potatoes and stuff. And it turned out that Kharcho is megrelian dish, actually. I was really surprised and glad about that, if you want to know the truth. So, my sister said that she saw this Kharcho dish in the menu of Khinkali House and so that we could go there again and eat there Kharcho. Well, I didn’t know what I wanted or if I wanted to eat something at all, however I really wanted to eat some meat if I ate anything there.

So, when I went home from the beach, my sister was there and waiting for me to go to Khinkali House. Well, we went out and when we got there she was right and they had Kharcho on menu, so that she ordered one and I was just looking at that menu and couldn’t decide what I wanted. We asked my brother what he wanted to order and he said that he would eat some kebab, so we ordered that for him, and usually they bring some sauce with it and they ask if you want bread, too, and my sister wanted some, so she ordered one portion of bread, too. Then I saw this kind of a strange thing on menu, it was meat with mushrooms and Sulguni and it said that it only cost 2.50 Laris and I thought that I would eat it, because I didn’t want something large to order and I wanted just a small piece of something that would be enough for me. So I told the waiter to bring me that thing and, well, good thing that there was another waiter there, who told me that the pricing was not right in that menu and that this dish cost about 10 Laris or so, so that I thought that the portion would be large or something like that and then I chose to have some Ostri, at least I know what it was and how much there was in one portion.

Well, while we were waiting, my sister couldn’t help but to speak about her hunger and asking when her order would come, however I didn’t think that her Kharcho would come that quickly, I mean, they brought it pretty fast and so my sister had this happy look on her face and started eating her Kharcho. I must say, that it was pretty good-looking and smelled great, too, and had everything just fine and the beef in it was good, too, so in all, Kharcho was worth ordering. And the other thing how I know that it was good was that my sister ate it all, well, I must say, that she still left a little bit of juice and a small piece of beef, however, she ate that whole portion with bread and it’s not very small bowl, if you want to know the truth. I mean, if you eat the whole portion of Kharcho with bread and stuff, you’ll feel so full that you won’t want anything else to eat. So that I was really surprised about my sister, as she doesn’t really eat soups or things like that and when she ate the whole portion it was pretty awesome. Well, then there was my brother, he came and ordered some lemonade for him, too, though my sister had already ordered the same lemonade for her, but we all knew that she wouldn’t drink all of it and there were glasses for the lemonade, too, so that my brother could also drink it, but he still ordered some lemonade and bread, too, and then that bread was left like that, too, because that one portion that my sister had ordered was pretty much enough for everyone.

So, soon that kebab came, too, it looked really great and the taste was great, too, I mean, until my order was brought, I just tasted some of that kebab and the sauce that they bring you with the kebab and it was pretty awesome, so that I decided that these people in Khinkali House did know how to handle meat in any ways and they had good dishes with meat, so if you want to eat good Khinkali or anything with meat, you can go there and enjoy your dishes. And I’ll tell you about my order, too, you know that I had ordered Ostri and they brought it and it looked good, however it was still hot, as they make it in Ketsi and it gives Ostri some distinguished taste, I guess, and it’s clay, so the dish doesn’t really get cold soon. I tasted it and it was great, it had everything perfectly decided and I really liked my dish, so, we had a good time eating there in Khinkali house, I can say.
