Summer is coming: what to do in Barcelona?
Actually, any time of year is good to visit Barcelona, but during the summer the city is transformed in a spectacular way. The people of Barcelona take their foot off the accelerator and the rhythm of the city slows down. As a resident in the city for several years now, of course I recommend knowing the essential of the city in a Barcelona day tour, I will also give you 8reasons to visit Barcelona this summer.
- The beach - It's an obvious reason, I know, but who does not like to cool off on the beach during the hottest months of the year? Barcelona is blessed with more than 4 km. of easily accessible beaches. Each of them has its own atmosphere, and with the beach bars that serve drinks and food by the sea, there is no need to leave the beach.
- Go out to party in Barcelona Nightlife - Another pretty obvious reason considering that Barcelona is known for its nightlife. However, in summer it is different. Everything that normally takes place behind the closed doors of pubs and bars, moves to the streets, with locals and tourists occupying the squares and enjoying the lovely summer nights until the early hours of the morning.
- Sant Joan - This is a very special night in Catalonia, an old party to celebrate the summer solstice. It takes place every year on the night of June 23. The sky over the city is filled with fireworks, the beach is full of people and bonfires, and the party lasts until dawn. The next day is a holiday in Barcelona. And a very quiet day in which most stores are closed...
- Festivals - During the summer in Barcelona it seems that there are festivals every week. From massive festivals such as Primavera Sound or Sónar to medium-sized festivals such as Cruïlla, or smaller ones. No matter what kind of music you like, there's sure to be a festival in Barcelona that has what you're looking for.
- Sala Montjuic - During the summer months, the imposing fortress that sits on Montjuïc opens its doors and invites people to unfold a picnic tablecloth in their gardens and to watch the films that are projected on the castle wall. The projections begin at 10pm. and there is usually a jazz concert before the movie. The season is usually from the beginning of July to the middle of August.
- Electronic Picnik- Every Sunday afternoon, from June to September 14th, a small music festival takes place in the Joan Brossa Gardens of Montjuïc. Spend the afternoon dancing to the beat of the best electronic music. If you have children, do not despair, there is a large area equipped so that families can enjoy a picnic on the lawn and listen to good music. Parents can dance while children participate in workshops and organized activities.
- Caseta Migdia - This site is a little secret of the people of Barcelona, so do not tell many people about it. Basically it is a viewpoint over the sea and the perfect place to see how the sun sets over Barcelona. Get close if you want to listen to some rumba while you eat grilled sardines. The only problem is to get there, but once you're there, you will not want to leave.
- Festa Major de Gracia - Imagine a whole neighborhood with its elaborately decorated streets, full of people enjoying the music and the party until the early hours of the morning. That's what happens in the neighborhood of Gracia during its week of festival. This year will be from August 15th to 21th. Other activities that take place are castellers, correfocs and cultural events.
As you can see, there are a lot of reasons to visit Barcelona in summer and I'm sure you'll find lots of them more!
