Some help to those who want to learn Spanish

For most Erasmus, the best way to learn Spanish is coming to Spain, the country where it is spoken, and to stay the longer the better.

Once you are in Barcelona, most people consider that the most effective way to improve the knowledge of a language is with a teacher who teaches you new language and helps you to perfect what you already know. In other words, make a Spanish course in Barcelona that suits your needs. If your needs are very particular, I recommend you an individual course.

And without taking a course?

If you are still in your country, you can use Internet as a source.

Reading in Spanish is probably the best formula to expand your vocabulary and improve your comprehension. One advice we give is to regularly read Spanish-language newspapers on the Internet.

Change the homepage of your browser. It is a very good idea that every time you connect to the Internet your browser opens on a news page in Spanish, for example the Yahoo version in Spanish could be a possibility. When the page opens, choose the most interesting headline and read the article. The five minutes a day you will take to do it, over time, will have had a very positive impact on your Spanish learning.

Find sites in Spanish on the Internet of topics that interest you and visit them often. It does not matter so much about what you read. The important thing is to read and sure that if the subject interests you read it with more desire. Visit our links pages to see if you find something that is of interest to you.

If you are already in Spain...

Read the newspaper in Spanish. There is no excuse for not doing so, there are even several that are distributed free of charge on the street. Another advantage of this type of newspaper (such as 20 Minutos or Time Out) is that the articles they contain are short and easy to read. Watch TV or go to the movies to improve your listening skills.

Try one of the following ideas to learn vocabulary.

1. Have fun. Do activities that are interesting, fun and fun. Fun for you, of course, because each person is different and what I like maybe you do not like. So, the secret is to do the same thing you would do in your mother tongue, but in Spanish. For example, if you like music, listen to songs in Spanish; If you like cinema, you can watch Spanish movies.

2. Set a schedule. To be successful with Spanish (and with any language) you have to study regularly, every day or almost every day; It is not necessary to study many hours, but regularly. Think about what time you can study Spanish and how you are going to do it. In the morning? At night? What time? Where? In the kitchen? In the park? If you can only dedicate to Spanish half an hour each day, it's okay, not much, but if you do it regularly, every day or almost every day, in the end you will learn Spanish. The important thing is to have discipline, motivation and to do every day a little, even if it is not much. At the end you will see the results.

3. Study. It may be obvious, but many students think that going to Spanish class is enough to learn Spanish. Some students often say, "Oh, please, teach me Spanish. " Actually no one can teach you Spanish, you are the one who has to learn. The teacher can help you, guide you, solve a doubt, answer your questions, but it's you, only you, the one who can learn Spanish. When I say that I have to "study" Spanish I mean doing things like memorizing words and expressions, understanding grammar rules, establishing relationships between concepts, repeating words mentally to remember them better, searching in the dictionary for a word that you do not understand, and so on. That is, you have to make an effort, be active in your study of Spanish.

4. Practice, practice, practice. You have to practice four skills: speaking, reading, writing and listening. It is not enough just to read or listen to learn to speak in Spanish. To learn to speak, you have to talk; o learn to read you have to read; to learn to write you have to write and to learn to listen in Spanish you have to listen and hear other people speaking in Spanish.
