What is it like to live in Bangkok? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Source:

defiantly recommend a living in Bangkok.

The city is quite lively with many nice cool bars/eateries opening up with great concept. A lot of community malls are now giving more focus to concepts.

although the weather is hot, but there's alot of places you can go and hang out to cool down. In your spare time there's also alot for you to visit. You can even do short trips to other cities in Thailand as there's much more to explore.

The food here is also great. You have plenty of local food and on the other end you have gastronomy.

What is the student lifestyle like in Bangkok?

most students if they don't have curriculum activities many will just stroll around the malls (to cool off) and go to coffee shops or dessert places. Many will also do a bit of shopping. I didn't study university in Bangkok, so i don't have as much to share on this.

How much does it cost to live in Bangkok?

although living cost have risen in the past several years, but it is still quite affordable in Bangkok.

Simple local 1-dish meal will cost you around 1. 5 USD and a bottle of water can cost around 30cents-50cents.

Eating at gastronomy will easily cost you around 30 USD per person. Alcoholic drinks (cocktails) cost around 14 USD, but if you go to local bars it can be as cheap as 6 USD. Beers are around 4-14 USD depending on where and what brand and if it's tap.

Shopping is an heaven here, if you're not into brand names it can be as cheap as $4. local brands/foreign brands are most costly.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Bangkok? Is there any advice you can give?

it's a bit hard to find cheap accommodation in the city center. In terms of availability, there's plenty to choose from, it's more up to your budget.

However if you don't have alot, don't put your hopes up that you'll get a posh place.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

food is awesome in Bangkok.

There's alot of local food from the central (more chinese influence), northeast (more curries and chili paste) and northern regions (more grilled). Southern (much more spicier and uses alot of herbs, some influence from muslim cusine) food is a bit harder to find in Bangkok.

However if you're bored of Thai food, there's plenty of western food for you to choose it can also go from cheap to gastronomy expensive.

Local fav : Thai boat noodles, Chicken curry rice, fried egg, chicken basil rice, tom zap (not tom yum).

What places would you recommend visiting in Bangkok?

you'll need to go to chatujak market (JJ Market). There's alot a bunch of night markets such at Talad Rot Fai (Night Train Market).

There's also old school places like Talad Nud. Or the flower market. There's also a pop up market that moves around from time to time call artbox.

Is it good to eat out in Bangkok? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

anywhere. Street food are delicious in bangkok!

Is the nightlife good in Bangkok? Where is good to go?

There's a lot of places you can go to in Thailand. Most local places have live bands which makes the venue more lively.

There's alot of clubs as well (Tonglor soi 10 & RCA)

There's also alot of hip clubs/bars around bangkok (Soy Sauce Factory, sing sing theater, etc)

What advice would you give future students heading to Bangkok?

don't need to pack too much, you'll be shopping for things here.

Try to be friends with locals so that you can pick up the language and it will help you.

Don't just stay in Bangkok, go explore other places in Thailand also.
