Visiting the beautiful city Aveiro

During my internship period, I discovered that many cities in the north of Portugal could be visited from Braga which was my residence city using mainly the train as mean of transport and that the travel tickets were not expensive at all, especially to Barcelos, Viana do castelo, and Aveiro. From the station Campanhã a train can be taken to Aveiro with a duration of 33 minutes and without being so expensive, only for 3,55 euros.

Aveiro is considered to be the second most popular city of the region of Portugal and an industrial city with an important port and strong system of maritim transport.

Aveiro is called the Portuguese Venice and this is mainly due to its system of multiple canals and varied boats that is very similar to the Italian city of Venice. I had the amazing chance to go in one hour trip in one of the gondolas very colourful as well and painted with many detailed and spefic design.

1- The gondolas

The gondola passes under more than six bridges and each bridge have a specific story, I had the luck to see a lot of salt accumulated destined mainly for production and extracted from the lake.

The most impressive things you can see when you arrive in Aveiro is the incredible palette of colors in the houses in the gondolas decorated in very beautiful detailed way, the blue of the sky painted in those beautiful boats, the very pure water from the river, and the bright colors of the traditional boats, which in the past carried seaweed and help to be used by farmers as fertilizer for the lands. An amazing cruise that lasted approximatively 45 minutes,on the channels cost 10 euros per person with the presence of very nice and kind guide that comments in English, French or Portuguese.Three channels cross Aveiro and divide it into 2 distinct districts: the fishing district on the one hand, and the monumental city, rich with its patrimoine together of the modern, on the other hand.

2- Parc Dom Pedro Infante

Then I had great walk in parc Dom Pedro Infante that is an amazing parc with amazing green river where ducks can swim together in squads, amazing trees and flowers with multiple colours everywhere surrounding the alleys especially in a wonderful coordination. The green colour of the river was maily due to tree leafs that gave a natural painting to such a landscape in very beautiful harmony.

The entry of the parc is made with blue mosaic demonstrating the historic period where women were working hard and men were mainly fishermans and helping their women which is demonstrated by the landscapes shown in the mosaic That period demonstrated the bravour, the honor and the respect that poeple where living in during that time mozaic porcelain was decorating the stairs accompanied by some tree leafs everywhere with colourful flowers and a small amazing houses where little pigeons take refuge as their homes singing in very hamonious melody of the spring.

The city can be easily visited on foot since it is all flat even if we do not arrive by train, we can take some time to visit to the old Aveiro station. Its exterior and interior facades are decorated with mosaic demonstrating beautiful landscape and stories about Aveiro and the region, as well as the farmers and traditions of this amazing lagoon.

3- Jeronimo periera Campos factory

Another emblematic monument is the old jeronimo periera Campos factory which is considered an example of industrial architecture where the red bricks give an amazing and wonderful design. This old factory is now used as an important palace for meeting and conferences the boat trip we could discover the Different canals which we saw a breathtaking view of the old ceramic factory This red brick building that was built from the last century was transformed into a cultural and congress center also a restaurant-school hides nowadays behind its thick walls that poeple can discover with amazing culinary dishes.

Another great idea to visit the city Aveiro is the bikes, in fact, the city offers self-service bikes and totally free. To be able to use them, you just have to deposit your identification and put an amount of money.

4- Costa Nova

One of the best amazing regions in Aveiro and the most beautiful is the Costa Nova district that is considered as one of my favorite places in Aveiro. Walking around this old neighborhood make this trip even more splendid. you will find excellent seafood restaurants in the coast characterised of kilometers of wild beaches. If poeple visit Aveiro, they must absolutely see this part of the CostaNova with the amazing style of colourful homes, they can also visit another part by ferry to see the sand dunes and the beach very symbolic of this amazing place and very famous in Portugal.

Aveiro has beautiful and very wild beaches as far as we can see. Separated from the side of the road by huge dunes of fine sand, the beaches are accessible via many wooden bridges.in front of this amazing beach, poeple can find out small bars and restaurants to enjoy a greedy the most wonderful moments the sea. The beach of Costa Nova is known to be very prised by for surfers exactly like matosinhos in Porto, any lovers of beautiful waves you will be generousely served! Although the beaches are supervised, they can represent danger especially in winter times, the beach is so far the best one. This beach is much beautiful and calm and poeple just need to locate the lighthouse of Aveiro, the beach is just below.

5- University of Aveiro

The university of Aveiro is one of the biggest icone of the city hosting many international students and it is localised in the heart of the city in that way many students can enjoy the courses and the magical city as well.

Portugal is known around the world for its good food at affordable prices. Aveiro does not escape the rule with excellent local specialties. for example, the famous cod donuts and pastéis of natal portuguese or dare the specialty of the city Ovos Moles d'Aveiro (soft eggs) or Aveiro tripas that is a double pancake with a filling of your choice. I had also the chance to taste a very delicious and amazing sweets that were a speciality of the city and many bakeries prepare them in a very specific way as a symbolic icone. This specialty is called Ovos moles which are Portuguese egg yolk sweets. It has very smooth texture and sweet aromas that mix together with the crunchy shell makes for a really much delicious flavour. The very modern commercial center Forum Aveiro is also a great place to walk in it to see the different clothe styles, the amazing restaurants surrounding the area I highly recommend it for shopping lovers as well of ice-cream lovers as well because I tried an amazing ice-cream there that seemed to be the best ice-cream I ever tasted in my life.

6-Aveiro Railway Station

Aveiro Railway Station also is very beautiful and original place to visit as the mosaic with porcelain, the architecture and the design are all related to historical period and each square represents a different landscape in very beautiful way. one of the most impressive landcape was the conserved railway station where every story of the historical period was wrote and demonstrated by the mosaic pieces jointed together and decorating the white walls in very amazing way. For poeple wanting to discover the history but in more specific way, they can visit the multiple museums of the city that can show many of the patrimoine of Portugal and being not far from the city center, differents museums can also be discovered showing the amazing history of the city that can enrich our knowledge about the city in many aspects.
