Experience in Auckland, New Zealand by Wahid
What is it like to live in Auckland? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
Living in Auckland can be a great experience. There are a lot of cultures from all around the globe, so immersing yourself is a truly great idea. The weather can be a bit bipolar, as it is known as the place with four seasons in one day. The city is extremely clean, and the people are very friendly.
What is the student lifestyle like in Auckland?
The student lifestyle is very relaxed, much like the rest of the country. Outside of the quietness, there are often clubs in the city which host special events with special guests. This is a great way to socialize and get to know more people. Also, other students are always on hand to help you, and will try their best to make you feel at home.
How much does it cost to live in Auckland?
Auckland is quite an expensive place to live in. I would recommend trying to flat with other people as living on your own in the city may be quite costly. Groceries too can be quite costly, however, you can live on $50-$100 worth of groceries per week. Make sure that you have around $300-$400 weekly to ensure a comfortable living experience.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Auckland? Is there any advice you can give?
Finding accommodation in Auckland can be a little bit tricky. All that is needed is some patience and time and the right place will pop up. I recommend using Trade Me, this is an online service where people from all over New Zealand sell second hand or new goods on. This can range from Cars & Boats to kitchen utensils and gaming products. This also includes homes for rent or sale. Alternatively you can look at Ray White, Harcourts, Barfoot & Thompson. These are the popular real estate companies in New Zealand and they have 1000's of choices for you to choose from.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
The food form Auckland is quite diverse. Especially in the city, there are always a host of different and new foods available. My favorite restaurant is Orleans. This is near the bottom of the city, and has excellent food for a decent price. The people friendly too! Also, if you are looking for cocktail, I would recommend Caretaker. It is a hidden location and not many people now about it. Be sure to check online to see where it is specifically. It is actually next to Orleans, but is quite hidden! The cocktails are among the best I have had, however, they are a bit pricey at $20 each. But, they all make up for in the unique experience...I won't ruin the surprise ;)
What places would you recommend visiting in Auckland?
Most places I would recommend would be nature related:
-Musik Point
-Piha Beach
-KiteKite or Hunua Falls
-Mt Eden
-Devonport War Tunnels
-Duder Reigonal Park
-Sulphur Beach Road or Westhaven Marina (Best views of the City Skyline and Harbour Bridge)

Make use of the time you have there. Form strong relationships and take in being in another city. It is truly a great experience to be in another city away from home. You never know when you are going to be back, so make the most of it and live in the moment!
