Why did you choose to go to Angers, France?
I chose to come to Angers, France because of the great recommendations my friends back in Austin gave their experience in Angers. It made me want to come and experience it for myself.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
My stay in Angers runs from January to July. I receive a small scholarship from my home university, but most of my financial support comes from my parents.
What is the student lifestyle like in Angers?
The student life in Angers is very leisurely and free. There is a variety of activities, and also a number of ways to relax and enjoy your time.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Angers to other students?
Yes, I would recommend the city and the University of Angers to other students.
What is the food like?
The food is of excellent quality. Whether it's traditional french, Asian, Italian or American, all of the food tastes well cooked and fresh.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Angers?
I didn't find my accommodation in Angers until I was already in the city and it took about two weeks, not very long but somewhat stressful.
How much does it cost to live in Angers?
The cost of living is very affordable. My rent for my own room and shared kitchen and bath is 350 euro a month.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
There are language courses at the University, but I find the best way to learn is to make French friends who are willing to help teach you. If I can't express myself, most people know basic English and can understand what I am trying to say.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Angers from your city?
I took a plane from the United States to Paris, then a train from Paris to Angers.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Angers?
Any bar, like le Bar du Central, with a group of good friends is always a load of fun.
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Angers?
I love the Japanese restaurant, Sakura, as well as The Pub and Le Corolone Pizzeria.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
The castle and cathedral are a must!
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Angers in the future?
Really take advantage of your weekends and fill them with activities or cultural events! It all goes by very fast!
