Why did you choose to go to Angers, France?

I chose to go to Angers because I am a French minor, and I wanted to improve my French.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

The scholarship lasts for one semester from January till the end of May. I get 510 EUR Erasmus scholarship per month, and 130 EUR CAF - support from the French state to my accommodation. It is not the same for everyone, it depends on the payment for the room. I pay 310 EUR per month.

What is the student lifestyle like in Angers?

Everybody is smiling and happy, but most of us study diligently. We go to parties or to the cinema or make excursions to Paris or to the Loire valley to visit the castles that are worth seeing.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Angers to other students?

I would recommend the city and the university I attend in Angers, the UCO (Catholic University of the West).

What is the food like?

The food is excellent. The UCO's university cantine is perfect. You get a meal of two courses and dessert for 3. 20 EUR, and you can choose 2 out of 4 desserts. I also like French cheese very much.

The UCO finds accommodation for its students, so I just had to write if i wanted to live in a dormitory or at a family.

I manage to live out of 300-400 EUR per month as I not only eat, but go to the cinema, buy books and clothes, too.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

I am an English major and a French minor, so I do not have difficulties with languages. The universities offer language courses in French that are compulsory to attend. Before starting the French course you have to make a test.

I traveled to Angers by train and by air.

There are several good pizzerias and kebab restaurants there.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

The exhibitions in the Castle is a must see, but also the theater has good performances.

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Angers in the future?

Bicycles are free to borrow for students in Angers for 4 months. I either go by bike everywhere, or by tram. It is allowed to take your bike on the tram, so when I travel to the suburb to visit a friend I put the bike on the tram, and then I ride it after taking it off the tram.
