What is it like to live in Amsterdam? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

In my opinion, Amsterdam is the place to be. The city has so much to offer. If you're into art, Museumplein is your spot. If you want to enjoy some nature, stroll around in the Vondelpark. In the summer, you can rent a boat to enjoy the city from a 'canal-point-of-view' and in winter, you can do the same with your ice-skates on.

Amsterdam isn't a very big city, so it won't take long for you to figure out your favorite spots. And don't be afraid to ask around. The people are friendly and open-minded.

What is the student lifestyle like in Amsterdam?

As a student in Amsterdam, it is hard to get bored. There is just so much to do. The best parties take place on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, but you can literally go into town every night. If you're not that much into partying, you can check out the tons of museums Amsterdam has.

Enjoy the sun in the Vondelpark, rent a boat and check out the canals, or explore the city on your bike. A bike is a must!

How much does it cost to live in Amsterdam?

Is Amsterdam expensive? Well, that depends on your lifestyle. The rents in the city center are pretty high (around €600 per month). The more you get away from the center, the cheaper the rents. Public transport is not that expensive, but also not really necessary if you have a bike (and trust me, everyone does).

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Amsterdam? Is there any advice you can give?

Yes, it is difficult to find accommodation in Amsterdam. You just have to be lucky.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Holland is famous for its stews. Try their pea soup (only in the Winter) or get yourself a kroket.

What places would you recommend visiting in Amsterdam?

  • Museumplein, for its art museums (from Rembrandt to Koons).
  • Vondelpark, bring some food and beers and enjoy the sun.
  • Reguliersdwarsstraat, for the best (open-minded) parties.
  • Jordaan, to find out the meaning of the dutch word 'gezelligheid'.

Is the nightlife good in Amsterdam? Where is good to go?

I love the Reguliersdwarsstraat. Especially because of the open-minded atmosphere that all the bars on clubs in this street share.

What advice would you give future students heading to Amsterdam?

This is probably your best decision in life so far. You will not regret visiting this awesome city.
