What is it like to live in Ámsterdam? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

It is a beautiful city, there are a lot of internationals and always a lot to do! I would definitely recommend it. It is a small city so you can walk, bike, or take the tram anywhere in the city, very safe.

What is the student lifestyle like in Ámsterdam?

Perfect, there are always parties, it is very hard to find an apartment though for a good price.

How much does it cost to live in Ámsterdam?

1 room in the center is between €550-900.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Ámsterdam? Is there any advice you can give?

Yes, very difficult, it is easier when you know some people so find a place outside of the city center and when you meet people more place will open up. Also join Facebook groups an check websites, stay away from rental agencies.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

It is okay, a lot of dairy and bread. I love the "hapjes" snacks to eat while you drink :)

What places would you recommend visiting in Ámsterdam?

Rembrandtplein, Leidseplein, De Pijp, and Oost are filled with bars and nightlife for students, you will find the area you like the best.

Is it good to eat out in Ámsterdam? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

It is a bit expensive, Dutch people usually eat at home. I love Bar Bukowski for small snacks while you drink and of course burgers in De Pijp and Sumo Sushi buffet.

Is the nightlife good in Ámsterdam? Where is good to go?

Yes, there are plenty of clubs in/around Leidseplein and Rembrandtplein. Club Nyx, Club Up, Jimmy Woo, Chupitos.

What advice would you give future students heading to Ámsterdam?

It is very difficult to find housing and some Dutch student prefer to live with other Dutch students. Buy a bike ASAP from someone through Facebook, and don't be afraid to go out and try new things. Everyone is very open and accepting and explore the city there are a lot of hidden bars, cafes, restaurants that can quickly become your favorite.
