Experience in Amsterdam, Netherlands by Beth
What is it like to live in Ámsterdam? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
I love the diverse culture. As it is just like my home city, Cambridge, it's like a home from home for me.
How much does it cost to live in Ámsterdam?
Between €450- €2, 000 depending on where and what you want
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Ámsterdam? Is there any advice you can give?
Very difficult due to the amount of students needing rooms as well, and the level of scammers in the area. I would suggest waiting till you have somewhere to stay already (hostel, hotel, friends place) before searching. Also, be alert of con-artists trying to get money before you see the room, or don't even let you view.
Do a lot of research into the best areas and do price comparisons.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
Lots of steak houses... YUM.
There is a slight variety of food types, due to the diversity of culture to cater for.
What places would you recommend visiting in Ámsterdam?
The Dam;
Sex Museum;
Anne Frank house;
Madam Tussauds.
Is it good to eat out in Ámsterdam? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
It is ok... but quite expensive.
Is the nightlife good in Ámsterdam? Where is good to go?
I am used to clubbing in the UK, so it is very different for a Brit, but it is ok for chilling and chatting outside.
