Erasmus Experience in Amsterdam, the Netherlands by Eugenia

Why did you choose to go to Amsterdam, the Netherlands?

I chose Amsterdam because I spent a couple of hours here on an exchange and I loved it. It's super easy to communicate with everyone since everyone speaks perfect English. The bicyle really struck my attention, and the partying too.

How long is the scholarship for? How much money do you receive as aid?

It depends on the grant. I haven't received it yet but it's supposedly around 1, 200 euros.

How is student life in Amsterdam?

It's stupendous. There are many, many people from different countries. The classes are very varied.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Amsterdam to other students?

Totally. The system works perfectly.

How is the country's food?

Amsterdam isn't a city that is characterised by its food; although the puddings are really good. Stroopwafles and waffles, highly recommended - not for dieting hahaha.

I paid the University in order for them to find me accommodation. It was worth it because it's super difficult to find accommodation by yourself.

At least 600 euros.

How's the language? Did you go to any courses at the University?

I tried but it's very difficult. No, the university offered me a course but it was 500 euros and seemed excessive to me.

By plane. I live in Gran Canary.

Which places do you recommend to go out to party in Amsterdam?

Coco's, Scape, Paradiso, Disco Dolly and Melkweg...

And to eat in Amsterdam? Can you name your favourite places?

Febo: Fast food; good and cheap.

And as a cultural visit?

The whole city is precious.

Any advice you want to give to future students in Amsterdam?

Get a bank account here as they don't accept foreign cards in many places. Take care with mobile phones when it's wet.
