Erasmus Experience in Alcalá De Henares, Spain by Laura

Why did you choose to go to Alcalá De Henares, Spain?

Because my friend had been there the year before and recommended it. I had never been to Spain before so it wasn't too overwhelming and the accent was neutral.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

It was for one semester, received average Erasmus grant.

What is the student lifestyle like in Alcalá De Henares?

It's good. There are lots of Erasmus students there and several places to go out at night that are more bar-clubs than full on clubs that we have in England. After a month or so you will pass someone you know everytime you walk through the centre of town.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Alcalá De Henares to other students?

Yes, as a city and the university building is really nice. However, it is quite small so is perhaps better for those only staying for one semester. Everyone had trouble with the university but that is something that is happening all over Spain, you will need to be patient with the system.

What is the food like?

Amazing! Tapas bars are everywhere and are so cheap. El tapon and Rusty's were my favourites.

Alcalingua is a bit pricey but good for those that are beginners or doing accelerated at their home institution. Post A-level students also did the course and found it useful but it depends on your ability.
