What is it like to live in Accra? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Accra is the capital city of Ghana. Its a great place to live if you are the adventurous type. The people are super friendly and helpful to foreigners. If you end up in the estate or residential areas its peaceful and fairly quiet. The other parts of the city can either be quite noisy due to vehicles or fairly peaceful. Like any other city Accra has a number of fun palces to visit.

What is the student lifestyle like in Accra?

Depending on the school student life may vary. But mainly its lots of hard work and lots of fun. Depends on how outgoing you are. You can study and have fun at the same time.

How much does it cost to live in Accra?

Cost of living is moderate to high depending on your pkace of residence. I advice you use the bus (trotro) system its cheaper and fun for foreigners. Taxis usually charge quite a sum esp. if you happen to be a foreigner.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Accra? Is there any advice you can give?

Accommodation is quite scares in Accra. I suggest you try booking before coming. You can book for a few days while you search for others on arrival. It also depends on how much money you are willing to spare.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

The food is great. Dont be too scared to try anything. All the foods are healthy. Buying off the streets and in small bars and restaurants is a lot cheaper than the big restaurants. You can try wakye, banku, fufu, omotuo and kenkey with soups like palmnut soup, groundnut soup,light soup, green leaf soup. You can also try jollof rice,ampesi,red red, fante fante. We have kontonmire stew,garden egg stew, tomato stew etc. These are all geat foods and very afordable too.

What places would you recommend visiting in Accra?

You can visit the Art center and numerous artisan markets. Oxford street in Osu has great african clothing and accessories.

Is it good to eat out in Accra? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Its ok to eat out just be sure to check the cleanliness of the environment where the food is sold.

Is the nightlife good in Accra? Where is good to go?

Night life is great. I recommend Osu,Accra mall, bus stop, paloma, Epo, jokers, and many others you will get to know when you come.

What advice would you give future students heading to Accra?

Walk in pairs,dont go out alone at night, make local friends who can serve as guides, don't let the trills keep you from your books.
