Different from traditional universities

Maybe it is only my experience because I come from University where both the professors and their teaching methods are present at the faculty for over twenty tears. But studying at Aalborg University is so much different, more modern and practical, than at those traditional institutions.

Firstly, AAU is known for its project-based learning, which basically means you are getting real-life cases to solve and exams are based on written reports, so you can choose topics which are interested for you and apply gathered knowledge in practice. They also put a lot of emphasis on groupwork, so you need to get on well with your classmates and preferably don't split up groups before the end of projects. Of course it is possible but learnig good teamwork is also valuable in the future workplace.

Secondly, the main campus is pretty far from the city center but it looks nice with small pond on the side. There's a pizzeria, canteen, and coffee shops. Besides no matter in which campus your classes are, there are many study rooms to use by students, printers in every building and plugs to charge your computer in every desk (even by the benches outside!) Sometimes there's free cake in the canteen, especially during special occasions like career fairs. At the beginning of scchool year there are fun activities (like viking boats race) and parties organized for new students, so it's good not to miss them.

Staff is moostly friendly and kind, there's no need to use any titles and most lecturers prefer to call tham by first name, setting more informal and direct contact, which makes it easier to ask any questions about unclear topics. Lectures are not mandatory and have format of a discussion or exercises, which make it easier to pass final exam, if you participate actively. And most importanly: there are no tuition fees for students from European Union ;)
