What is it like to live in Bremen? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Actually, I have been living in Bremen since 2013 and to make it short - I love it. Bremen is not as big as Hamburg or Berlin, but I think this is the greatest thing about it. You have nearly everything within good reach: Bars, restaurants, discos, shopping etc. There are many young people in Bremen - especially students who like to party and get to know others.

What is the student lifestyle like in Bremen?

There are many students in Bremen, but I have the impression that the lifestyle is very special. There are fewer rich students, private students or anything comparable than for example in Hamburg. In Bremen there is a big alternative society.

How much does it cost to live in Bremen?

Living in Bremen is not too expensive. There are nice areas where you can find a cheap apartment (300 euros). Furthermore, you can go in clubs for free on Thursday (Stubu) and Friday (La Viva). Food costs should be approximately 250 per month.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Bremen? Is there any advice you can give?

Finding an accommodation in Bremen is not too difficult. If you're looking for a cheap apartment which has a good location, I would recommend the Neustadt.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

There are many different restaurants in Bremen. Personally I love going out at the Schlachte. It's directly at the river Weser and there are many nice restaurants (e. G. Mexican or Spanish but of course German food as well)

What places would you recommend visiting in Bremen?

I would recommend visiting the Schlachte in order to meet up with friends after work or before going out. Furthermore, there is the Hofbräuhaus which represents the typical Bavarian culture. There is a little bar in the city centre which is called Schuettinger. They have a happy hour for beer and the atmosphere is very nice!

Is the nightlife good in Bremen? Where is good to go?

I like the nightlife in Bremen because there are many student clubs (not so luxury, nice music, young people -only few idiots- cheap drinks). Personally, I prefer the La Viva but it's also nice to go to the Stubs. If you need a beer before entering the club I would recommend the Paddy's Pit which is directly at the central station.

What advice would you give future students heading to Bremen?

If you are not looking for a big city like Hamburg and Berlin but you still want to enjoy your time in a city where everything is in the near and you can do almost everything, I would recommend visiting Bremen. There are many nice people around here and many spots to meet up with friends or get to know new friends.
