Brasov Citadel

It is very easy to find the Citadel of Brasov as it is on a top hill that you can see basically from anywhere in the city. It isn't a very unique or amazing fortress. It seems they don't put much effort to make it a tourist attraction. It is rather used for making panoramic pictures of the city and for taking pictures of marrying couples (we met two couples during our 30-40 minutes of visit).

There are two ways to reach to the fortress, one is taking the pedestrian narrow path which is shorter but a bit adventurous and the second one is along the road of the cars which is a longer but better and safer way. I would recommend following the first option when climbing and the second way when you are going down the hill, of course only if you plan to go there on foot and the weather is nice.

There is also a restaurant inside the fortress but we haven't tried it... During the night there are parties organised inside it. In the courtyard sometimes different festivals or exhibitions take place. The fortress has quite a big area, with perfect location and open air but also "closed" as you have to enter there through a gate so I think in the future it can be used for even more different purposes.

The place is one of the best points if you wanna have an entire view over the city. From the top of the hill, two totally different panoramas can be seen: On one hand you can explore the "new city" or rather say the communist one in a bird's eye view... (Ah I forgot to tell, for some years during communism, the city of Brasov was named Stalin city. )

and on the other side, you can admire the old city with the Black Church in the middle and the name of the city Brasov is written in a mountain face the same like Hollywood style.

If you are in Brasov then you must visit this place, moreover it is free, otherwise, it is definitely not the main attraction of Brasov. There are many other nice places you can enjoy in Brasov during day and night as well, so far for me, it is the most beautiful city I have visited in Romania.
