What is it like to live in Ámsterdam? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

I would definitely recommend it! It is a nice city to live, you can do many things. And you can do almost everything by bike. You have nice restaurants, clubs, name it. The weather is only terrible sometimes, but that's just Holland.

What is the student lifestyle like in Ámsterdam?

It's nice, there are many things to do. You can just chill in the Vondelpark, Rembrandtpark, or another park, and relax. Or take your bbq with you if the sun is shining. Or hire a little boat, or whatever (you need connections mostly) and enjoy the many little canals. Oh and studying is nice, many libraries, bookstores, and whatever, where you can study.

How much does it cost to live in Ámsterdam?

Well, it's not cheap at all. It's quite expensive, especially the rent. But you don't really have to live in the centre of Amsterdam, you can go anywhere with your bike. The prices are okay, not really expensive, just a little bit.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Ámsterdam? Is there any advice you can give?

Yes, I think so. There's not that much advice I can give, just subscribe for facebook sites, internet sites, and so on. But most Dutch people do speak English (very well), so not speaking Dutch won't make it that difficult.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

There are many restaurants, Italian, Argentin, Japanese, etc. Some are quite cheap (especially in most touristy areas), which makes them popular for poor students. There are also many good restaurants, but more hidden or further away from the city centre. You see many All you can eat restaurants in Amsterdam, especially Japonese, Chinese, and so on.

What places would you recommend visiting in Ámsterdam?

You should visit the Anna Frank House and the Rijksmuseum/Stedelijk museum or Vincent van Gogh museum. You should also do a canal cruise, maybe rent a bike and cycle to one of the parks. In the night you should walk around in the Red Ligth District.

Is it good to eat out in Ámsterdam? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Yes, you can see my answer above. You can visit de Balie, the Schnitzelhaus or Singel 404 for a lunch! Oh and Plancius and Campo the Fiori are good restaurants

Is the nightlife good in Ámsterdam? Where is good to go?

Yes, I think so, I don't know that well. I am gay and visit mostly gay clubs and there are many good gay clubs and parties! You should go to Soho, Exit Après Chique, NYX and Fucking Pop Queers (this one is only once in 2 months or something)!

What advice would you give future students heading to Ámsterdam?

Visit at least one coffeeshop, just to see it. And cycle to Amsterdam! And just enjoy!
