Erasmus Experience in Amsterdam, Netherlands, by Namfon

Why did you choose to go to Amsterdam, Netherlands?

Because the Master program was in english and the tuition fee is much lower than UK.

And above all, I like biking.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

I haven't received any scholarship, but I'd love to get one if I could.

My parent paid for my study and I work like crazy in restaurant to pay the overrated rent.

What is the student lifestyle like in Amsterdam?

Hard.

First, it's very hard to find the place to stay.

There is no student dorm from where I study. I move 4 times in 2 years. It's kinda annoying with housing issue because if you stay far, means you meet with your friend less.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Amsterdam to other students?

Well, I don't know. There is pros and cons.

What is the food like?

Food is boring if you eat like dutch, they normally eat bread with many kind of spreads and cheese. But there are many asian shops that can keep you alive. I don't go for restaurant because it's too pricy. One meal dining out means the cost of you grocery for a week.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Amsterdam?

It's time consuming ever. I gave up living here already. Housing here is big issue for everyone. But for me, moving make me sick.

How much does it cost to live in Amsterdam?

I pay 500 euros a month for a little storage room size. And it's not in the ring of course.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available in the University?

Not really if you are lazy like me.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Amsterdam from your city?

None.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Amsterdam?

I'd say Jeffrey underground cinema is the best thing to go.

Otherwise do to Coffee shop and get stoned.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Amsterdam?

Better, cook yourself.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

They have many excellent museums with well manage here.

Is there any other advice that you could give to future students who are going to Amsterdam?

Be prepare for the housing issue.
