Experience in Yarmouk University, Jordan by Merna

Generally, what is Yarmouk University like?

Yarmouk is a fun university and the yarmoukies are quite friendly too! it won't be hard to find your way around it since it's in the heart of Irbid with all kinds of facilities that are a couple of minutes away, you got malls, restaurants, hotels, all kinds of accommodations and "public transportation" (which you won't be using when everything you need is a walking distance away)

What are the facilities like?

For the old faculties, the facilities are not so good since Yarmouk was founded in 1976 ( one of the oldest universities in Jordan), with not much of major updates in the infra structure since the establishment. But believe me it's not as bad as it looks from the outside. But for the new faculties built, the facilities are great.

What are the tutors like?

Most of YU's tutors are the ones you want to add to your facebook friend list! Helpful, caring and want what's good for you. You can reach them anytime you want via email, or give them a visit to their offices during their office hours.

Are the lessons easy in Yarmouk University?

It depends on which department the course belongs to.

Does the University organise activities? If so, what are they like?

They do organise activities, mostly organized by the students council, and they announce them by emailing students. The activities include academic/educational programs and off course entertaining ones. Like foreigners get to visit historic and cultural sites all over jordan.

Do you think there is a good quality of teaching?

Absolutely!

Are there any stories you can share?

Not a single semester simply passes by without something interesting happening in YU. Especially during the students elections! Chocolate fondues, cupcakes, teddy bears everywhere to attract students to vote, yes that actually happens every year.
Not to mention YU's atmosphere with love in the air. Once upon a time, during my first year I saw a proposal in campus, she said yes! Then they gave kenafah to everyone around (famous delicious dessert), and lived happily ever after! The end.
