Associate Systems Administrator

Required Skills

• Work a Sunday to Thursday job daytime shift. Sunday is early, starting 6 or 7am Poland time. Monday to Thursday 8-5, 7-4 or 9-6 is good Poland time.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work effectively within a team; strong desire to learn new technology and skills
• Independent problem-solving, self-direction
• Comfort with many aspects of RHEL6 administration; for example, managing processes and services, system installation and configuration, and fundamentals of security
• Familiarity with fundamental networking/distributed computing environment concepts; understanding of basic routing concepts
• Ability to write scripts in some administrative language (e.g., Bash, Perl, Python)
• Strong focus on business outcomes
• Comfort with collaboration, open communications and reaching across functional borders
• Willingness to participate in knowledge sharing via a wiki and source code repository like gitlab
• Participate in a weekly 24x7 on-call rotation, including weekends and some holidays.

Required Background

• 1-2 years of system administration experience

Desirable Background and Skills

• A degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience
• Familiarity with technologies we use, Oracle RAC, ElasticSearch, Kafka, VMWare, NFS, HA clusters, Load balanced pools, httpd, KVM and Nagios

Appropriate Responsibilities

• Receives general instructions for new responsibilities from supervisor
• Asks for help and clarifications as needed
• Administers a complex site with help from team members
• Initiates some new responsibilities and helps to plan for the future of the site/network
• Takes responsibility for learning new technology and skills
