4 and a half months. €600 Erasmus grant.

What is student life like in Villanueva de la Canada?

Pretty good, there are lots of bars, nice little restaurants where you can eat on the terrace when the weather's nice. There is a new club which just opened however it hasn't been very successful. For those who really like to party, it's better to go to Madrid... but there are many students who live in Villanueva, you can find us in the bars at the weekend to have a drink and dance a little!

Would you recommend the city and the university in Villanueva de la Canada to other students?

Yes.

What is the food like in this country?

Very good.

Did you have any trouble finding accommodation in Villanueva de la Canada?

Not at all. I found accommodation on the Internet through housing websites. I live with my landlord: the ideal solution to make enormous progress with your Spanish. The streets are full of housing ads, usually for student roommates.

What is the cost of living in Villanueva de la Canada?

Not too expensive, very affordable prices concerning eating out and daily errands. Accommodation between €250-350 per month. Transport is a little more expensive (€55 per month for the transport card for the community of Madrid).

What is learning the language like? Have you attended language classes organized by the university?

Excellent language classes available at the university, with very good lecturers.

What is the most economical way to get to Villanueva de la Canada from your town?

I fly when I return to France - Madrid - Lyon direct flight. Otherwise, when I moved in in January, I made the trip by car over the course of two days.

Calle Real.

All the restaurants in Calle Real.

What cultural sights would you recommend?

There aren't any particular cultural sights to mention in this city.

Any advice for future students in Villanueva de la Canada?

If you prefer to live in big cities and a party atmosphere that never stops, then choose Madrid... some students who live in Villanueva are disappointed that they can't fully enjoy the capital due to the distance between the two cities. Otherwise, it is very nice to live here, I have met amazing people and I absolutely don't regret my choice. I still have the opportunity to go to Madrid so I enjoy all aspects of this Erasmus!
