Everyone has that friend who is practically part of the family. His/her home is our home, his/her cousins are our cousins, and his/her hometown is our hometown. Well, those who do not have should have.

Luckily, I have one for nearly 17 years.

Segirei is our hometown and it is part of Chaves’ county. By car, it is about 50 minutes from Chaves.

Descent to Heaven

It is not a very populated village during the year, which makes it calm and peaceful. However, during the summer it becomes alive with the return of emigrants for relaxing holidays.

Although the waterfall is located in Spanish territory, everyone considers it part of the village.

It is advisable to go by car and accompanied. This is because; being a natural area with little movement, in case of emergency, the time it takes to find help is incalculable.

We went up to the entrance by car.

You can see the highest point in the photo.

Descent to Heaven

Afterwards, we began to walk down the wooden walkway.

I must warn you that some parts might be a little scary either because they are narrow or do not have a handrail.

Descent to Heaven

Almost at the end, closer to the waterfall, the wooden walkway is replaced by metal stairs, which give a better sense of safety, despite its steepness.

When you arrive at the end of the stairs, what you can see is what appears in the first photo, presented above.

It is a beautiful place to take some photos or perhaps to take a break and hang out.

Although, on the other side of this place, the path looks like this:

Keep on walking. I promise it will be worth it!

If I remember it correctly, I think we went up again and there was probably some more stairs and another wooden walkway. The pathway only has one direction, though, and at its end, we found some kind of natural pools.

Descent to Heaven

WARNING

You cannot be careful enough! The ground in which we walked down to the pool is very slippery! I recommend you walk down barefoot and WITH YOUR FEET DRY. It might even be a little scary.

However, and despite the cold water, it is really well worth it. It is a beautiful place, it has a lot of privacy since people do not visit much, and it is difficult to access.
