Vienna: a place that you mustn't miss.

Hi again Erasmus mates!

Two weeks ago I went to the MGMT concert in Vienna with some friends and we went sightseeing too. And I can say that Vienna is an incredible city, really big, with a lot of things to do and to visit.

I spent three days and it was not enough to visit the city.

On Friday we arrived at 2 o'clock in the afternoon and we went to our hostel, it is called Hostel Hütteldorf. And I totally recommend it to everybody: it's cheap (you can pay 10 euros for one night in a shared room), comfortable. It's not in the center of the city but it is located next to a subway stop that will take you directly to the center of Vienna.

Then we went to the center of the city, which is huge and simply amazing. Full of people and things to see.

I advice everybody to visit these main places in Vienna:

  • Vienna State Opera: it's in the center of the city and near from all the museums. And in this Opera is where the famous New Year's Eve takes place.
  • St. Stephens Cathedral: just in the heart of the city, always full of tourists but a must-see location.
  • If you are lucky, as we were, you can go to Vienna on the Museums Night, where all the tourist locations are open until 1 am. The city seems to be full of life.

The best museums are:

  • Albertina: it owns one of the largest and most important print rooms in the whole world. With more than 65000 drawings, 1 million of old master prints, modern graphic works and photographs.

  • Belvedere: summer residence of Prince Eugene of Savoy. Here you can find one of the most known paintings: The Klimt Kiss. In here you can find the Austrian Gallery.
  • Schönbrunn: the most amazing and incredible palace you will ever visit. Known as the Viennese Versailles, is a major historical and cultural buildings in whole Austria. From it's Gloriette you can see the best Vienna landscapes.

  • Art History Museum: if you are really into art and history this is the place for you. Near to the Nature Museum and the Contemporary Art Museum.
  • Prater: the oldest amusement park in Europe. Amazing landscapes and a lot of fun.

Three days weren't enough to visit Vienna and get to know every corner of it. But at least I am glad to have made this trip. It's a city that someday I will visit Vienna again.
