Experience in Vicenza, Italy by Paola
What is it like to live in Vicenza? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
Vicenza is a quiet provincial city. Luckly it's close to other bigger cities and the surroundings of Vicenza are very beautiful, with hills and a lake.
What is the student lifestyle like in Vicenza?
Every Wednesday students meet in a bar or in another, every year the ''cool'' place change.
How much does it cost to live in Vicenza?
Vicenza doesn't have crazy prices, a rent outside the city center is quite good.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Vicenza? Is there any advice you can give?
Informa Giovani helps a lot and is possible to chack at the university if other students are looking for an apartment.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
Food is yummy. Vicenza is quite close to the coast, so it's possible to have fresh fish, it's close to the mountains too and chees is good. As in every italian city you have a great quality, ice creams are to die for and try also the traditional dishes with polenta. During summer every village around Vicenza have a town festival where is possible to taste good food at a very fair price.
What places would you recommend visiting in Vicenza?
The city center of Vicenza is really nice but small, there are several architectures by Palladio.
The lake 10km far from the city center is worthed at least one visit during summer.
Is it good to eat out in Vicenza? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
To eat out is a bit expensive, anyhow La fojeta has particular recipes of risotto ( rice), Il covo del ribelle is the best place for mexican food and in Bar Commercio during summer for few euros is possible to have spritz and such a buffet that you don't need to have dinner later.
Pizza worthed to try are at Vittorio in Borgo Berga and at Il Centrale, a bit outside Vicenza.
Is the nightlife good in Vicenza? Where is good to go?
If you have a car it's easy to have a nice night out, many clubs are located far from the city center. Down town the best places to have fun with friends are close to the Post Square and a really nice bar in my opinion is Sartea.
What advice would you give future students heading to Vicenza?
Have a bike even if the city is not that bike-friendly, you can easily reach many places because Vicenza is not very big.
