What is it like to live in Viana do Castelo? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Well, I do not live right in the city, I'm from a small village in the North of Viana, Vila Nova de Cerveira. But I go to Viana lots of times, and it's beautiful, with all of those landscapes, the river, the churches, the legends... It's perfect and interesting! I really recommend people to visit this city, or even to live in Viana! Minho, it's Minho! Better district: Viana do Castelo!

What is the student lifestyle like in Viana do Castelo?

It's calm and it's not that usual to see college students through the streets like in Coimbra. Nor is there the same academic spirit! It's very different!

How much does it cost to live in Viana do Castelo?

It is very cheap! Well, Viana it's not like Lisbon, Porto or Coimbra... It's popular for lot of things like the gastronomy and the culture, but it's cheaper than other cities, I think! It's so nice to live in a city like this one!

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Viana do Castelo? Is there any advice you can give?

Not really! You can stay in hostels like the Youth Hostel, or in a Hotel, like Axis, but this one it's more expensive, of course! You can stay in residences too! I think you just have to choose the price that you're willing to pay!

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

It's awesome! Very traditional, I love Portuguese Stew, Cabidela's Rice, Feijoada, and many other dishes that people usually eat in Viana!

What places would you recommend visiting in Viana do Castelo?

Santa Luzia Church, of course!

And the park near the river, the beaches, then you can also go to places from the district, like Ponte de Lima, Vila Nova de Cerveira, Caminha and others beautiful villages.

Is it good to eat out in Viana do Castelo? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Yes, you have thousands of restaurants everywhere, or you can go to the mall! I like to eat in Camelo and Bodegão! They have really tasty and cheap food! And well, like I said, I do not live in Viana's city...

Is the nightlife good in Viana do Castelo? Where is good to go?

To the night club, ON!

Or another option would be to go to Caminha, to the Rua Direita, and there you have many bars and a night club, which is Alfandega!

What advice would you give future students heading to Viana do Castelo?

You will love it because it is like being at home. People are very kind and nice to each other, and the city is very calm and quiet! You can enjoy peace and will appreciate the beauty of my city!
