Why did you choose to go to Ventspils, Latvia?

Frankly, I did not have another option. But I did not regret it.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

I had about 365€ per month. It was enough to live and participate in entertaiments. Also I used the scholarship to visit other cities (Liepaja, Riga).

What is the student lifestyle like in Ventspils?

Most of the students live in a dorm even if they have their family living in Ventspils. Dorm is a friendly and social place for students. Also student council of the university arrange some parties like Halloween in night clubs just for students. There are also student organisations like acting or guitar clubs.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Ventspils to other students?

I would definitely recommend Ventspils. There is a friendly environment even though it has a small population.

What is the food like?

Students always cook their own food in dorms. Also there are some fast food restaurants in Ventspils.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Ventspils?

Yes, the dorm costs about 40€ per month. It is quite cheap and the rooms are very clean and modern. 4 people share a bathroom and a toilet.

How much does it cost to live in Ventspils?

About 400€ per month (including partying).

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

Latvian language is a different language than russian and english. But I was be able to learn daily conversation in a month. Most of the latvians can't speak English, so it was kind of a must for me.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Ventspils from your city?

Unfortunately, there is just bus transportation to Ventspils. It costs about 5. 5 LVL from Riga to Ventspils.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Ventspils?

I recommend KissClub in Ventspils. Klondaika is good as well but I dont recommend as an easy bar, there is always a problem there caused by russians.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Ventspils?

There is a Kebab restaurant in the city center in the second floor of Maxima Shopping center. Also there is a big mall called Tobago. You can find good restaurants in the mall.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

Ventspils castle is worth to visit.

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Ventspils in the future?

You should be aware of that Ventspils is a small town which has 4 night clubs and a casino. But if you are looking for a cheap and friendly environment you should give it a try.
