Experience in University of the Valley of Guatemala, Guatemala by Dino Mejia Gandara

Generally, what is University of the Valley of Guatemala like?

If you are studying Engineering, Social Sciences, Natural Sciences or Education this is the place you should definitely be in. UVG is recognised by preparing high quality professionals with its avant garde approach to education. The strategic partnerships of the university with organisations gives space for great professional opportunities prior and after graduation. There is no such thing as "examen privado" like in other Universities so this really facilitates the graduation process.

What are the facilities like?

Faculty is very easy to reach, a new and modern building is under construction, most of the laboratories have been renovated in 2015 and you get good internet along the Uni. Sports facilities are scarce but the university teams are quite motivated.

What are the tutors like?

Professors are really interested in the academic and professional development of students. Most are available for questions after class and usually you keep can keep in touch with them after classes are over for future enquiries or advice.

Are the lessons easy in University of the Valley of Guatemala?

The teaching method is quite personal because courses have between 15 to 30 students. The workload is demanding for all faculties but the content is easy to follow and quite up to date.

Does the University organise activities? If so, what are they like?

The Office of Student Wellness organises activities on a regular basis as well as each degree department and faculty. Students get bombarded with activities so there is always something to do.

Do you think there is a good quality of teaching?

The quality of teaching is very good. UVG is known for its excellent approach to academic development and focus in research so most of the faculty are interested in improving their methods regularly and I know that they get trainings from the University quite often.

Are there any stories you can share?

All UVG students have strong knowledge in science, therefore a critical thinking environment is what you can get. Networking in the university is also one of it's best components since you can belong to one faculty but meet easily professors, researchers or students from other faculties.
