Experience in University of Florence, Italy by Elisa
Generally, what is University of Florence like?
The University of Florence is in my opinion one of the best in Italy, at least when it comes to my faculty (political science, economics and law).
It prepares students very well from a cultural point of view (that you study a lot! ) and offers a very wide knowledge. I think it has a fairly classical approach.
What are the facilities like?
The facilities are very different depending on the faculty: those found outside the historic center are newer, more spacious and offer more services, such as large kitchens, library, cafés, etc.. The faculties in the center are older, smaller, but obviously they have the charm of being in the old town.
Are the lessons easy in University of Florence?
The lessons are quite easy, but only if you bother to go to most of them. In fact, I do not think it makes much sense to attend classes sporadically, because the teachers follow a path from the start of the course at the end, whose arguments can take place in different classes. However, the professors, at least mine, are always available to solve any question.
Does the University organise activities? If so, what are they like?
The university does not propose many of the activitiesthat are typical on great European campuses, there are no sports team or anything, but organizes various language courses and promotes various cultural activities, meetings, conferences. I also know that the University of Florence has aESN group for Erasmus students, and exchanges abroad.
Do you think there is a good quality of teaching?
I think it has a good setting: the first years focuse on general theoretical knowledge, in order to allow the students to specialize more and more over the years. The professors are highly qualified and professional.
