Experience in University of Karlsruhe, Germany by Alex
Generally, what is University of Karlsruhe like?
Depending on what you study it's a rather technical university. While the material being taught is top-notch some professors / courses lose a bit of touch with reality. Due to this exam difficulties fluctuate over semesters, and in courses you rather hear the professor addressing their own memory rather than yours.
What are the facilities like?
Clean, sufficient, fairly well provided with any equipment necessary.
What are the tutors like?
More human than the professors, and doing tutorials was an essential help in my bachelors. It really depends which one you get, so if you have the option check out other tutorials for the same course to see if you can switch to one that is being taught more "human".
Are the lessons easy in University of Karlsruhe?
The lessons are fairly hard - especially since there isn't a lot of focus on the student, but the content is also often compressed in order to cover more.
Does the University organise activities? If so, what are they like?
Plenty of activities, but I don't think I've taken part in a lot (reflects more on me). What I really would recommend are the sport courses though: inexpensive and mostly taken seriously.
Do you think there is a good quality of teaching?
I think the material being taught is of very high quality, the teaching is rather mediocre in my experience.
Are there any stories you can share?
If you happen to be into deep house sometimes, behind the university, in the park called Fasanengarten some people organize raves. They are my favorite experience in Karlsruhe.
