Planning to Study in Corvinus University? You Should Not Miss Reading This...
So you have made your decision to study in one of the universities in Budapest. You were thinking whether it is worth the time studying in this university. You were also contemplating of your expectations of the faculty and your classmates in the next few months to come. You cannot avoid reflecting how the class looks like and how will you fare in your elective courses and mandatory subjects.
Studying in a Hungarian university offers you a very unqiue experience that can enrich your personality, widen your intellectual views and expand your network in the future. One of the best universities in Hungary is Corvinus University. This is where I have attended my first semester last year. In my opinion, choosing Corvinus University for Erasmus exchange program is a perfect choice.
Corvinus Budapesti Egyetem or the Corvinus University of Budapest shares the proud tradition of the former Royal Hungarian University and the Karl Marx University. I am proud to be a part of the Corvinus University for a number of great reasons.
The university had in the past produced great graduates who contributed to the Hungarian society in particular and the world in general. Because of its long history and tradition and academic excellence, I would say that Corvinus University has become a very important part of the Hungarian academic community. If you are going to look at the list of its alumni who did great things in the Hungarian society, the list is long and impressive. I personally looked at the profile of my host university, Corvinus University and I was personally astonished. It gives me a sense of pride really.
The Faculty
In terms of faculty, the Corvinus University boasts some of the best brains in Hungary. Its professors and lecturers are among the brightest in the continent equipped with sterling knowledge and skills. They are masters of their subject matter and are technically skilled on how to impart them to their students The faculty members are not only intelligent but are also understanding and patient. They know how to deal and treat their students well. Most of the faculty members have a sense of goodwill and are amiable. They are approachable and were more than willing to help students out understand a complicated or technical concept. They aid you understand gray areas in the lectures. In my experience as a graduate student in Corvinus University, I can fairly say that faculty members are really knowledgable and well-verse in their respective fields of specialization. They know what they are talking and whay they are doing.
It was during the fall semester of 2016 when I enrolled in the Corvinus University. I had two elective courses namely Sustainable Development in Asia, Migration Studies and three mandatory courses which include Social and Political Foundations of Local Development, Research Methods, Project Evaluation and Impact Assessment and Economic Foundations of Local Development. I enjoy while learning the nitty-gritty of the subject matter and learn while enjoying the intellectually engaging and exciting experiences in and out of the classrooms.
Most of my elective courses have students from different nationalities. The multicultural experience and the international atmosphere that the classes in the elective courses possess is remarkable. It was really an interesting experience mingling and discussing issues with students from the different parts of the globe. The ideas are rich and the viewpoints so diverse that you can be convinced that there is no single and exclusive way of thinking and doing things.
The Facilities
In terms of facilities, I will not entertain a second thought giving it an excellent assessment. It has a wide collection of learning materials in the library with an advance technology in its learning halls.
Its library has great collections of books across a wide range of subject matter and disciplines. When you go to the library, you need a library card which you usually pay for around 200 forinth (I am not sure if the amount remains the same for now). I have visited the library several times and I was really impressed. The librarians and their staff are very helpful and accommodating.
The lecture rooms are properly equipped with audio-visual equipment. They are conducive for learning. There are rooms which are good for small classes and there are huge lecture rooms that can accommodate a large number of audience. The rooms are clean and comfortable.
The toilets are tidy and orderly. They are clean and are kept and maintained properly by their staff.
Registration of courses is done online through Neptun system. Payment of tuition fees and even dormitory fees are likewise through Neptun account online. This system makes the different aspects of your student life a lot easier. You can even see your grades registered in your Neptun account. I did practically all my transactions to the Neptun system from paying for my dormitory fees to registering for the exams.
Activities in the University
There are lots of interesting activities in the college and these opportunities are typically posted on a regular basis in facebook pages. You will find it worthy to attend public lectures of some professors and invited lecturers from other universities, attend sessions and public forum organized by certain departments or students organizations in the university. As there are lots of good things and diverse activities to do, you would definitely find your stay worthy enough.
I have experienced listening to the British Ambassador to Hungary delivering a lecture about Brexit and the Indian Vice President delivering a lecture before a large number of students from the different parts of the globe.
When I registered for my courses, I was a part of the Faculty of Sociology. This faculty is among the best in the Corvinus University of Budapest. The faculty members are brilliant but humble; intelligent but very understanding for their students. They are interested in making you learn a lot of things. They empower you by making you think deeply on the subject matter and pose engaging challenges that will sharpen your wit and common sense. These faculty members are really admirable and are worthy of being emulated by young people.
Passing the Subjects
Passing the subject is not at all difficult if you exert effort to studying the materials and reviewing the lectures made by your professors. The basis of student assessment is typically through the conduct of one or two exams in a semester with some paper works to submit, a long essay in some instances. Others merely give oral tasks/tests to test students learning.
Some professors prefer to give oral examination and presentation on certain areas of the subject matter. Others administer exams to test the students' knowledge in the courses. Still others require long essays and paper works to be submitted on or before a given deadline. In the Hungarian grading system, 5 (excellent) is the highest grade and 1 (poor), the lowest. If you are conscientious and diligent enough to study, you would surely get 5 or 4, ignoring your courses and skipping revision or review of the materials will endanger your academic performance.
The Tuition Fees
With regards to tuition fees, I believe the fees in Budapest are a bit lower than other universities in the city. But if you are a recipient of a scholarship such as Hungaricum Stupendium or Erasmus Mundus, the tuition fees are waived.
So if you have decided to study in Corvinus University of Budapest, let me extend to you my felicitations. I believe firmly that you will surely enjoy your stay in this remarkable and splendid university in Hungary!
